Outlander Phev charging light on dashboard

Tried for the first time today to charge my Phev at a private charger (was located at a restaurant). Plugged in as per instructions on charging unit and charging light appeared on dashboard but it was white instead of red. I am new to the world of PHEV and could find nothing on Google about what a white symbol meant, so I thought it was just because of the type of charger.

Anyway, needless to say car didn't charge at all. Could anyone explain to me what the white charger symbol meant.

Red light means it is charging yeah.
It turns white when finished, with a message "charging complete"

What cable did you use, the one for regular house charging, with a normal UK plug on it?
If so the cable box has a green light on it when car charges.

Did you commence the charge by pressing "Start" on the charge point post?

Which exact charging point is this?

There might also be a charge timer set.

Hi Biko I used the cable that is used for ESB charging points. I followed instructions which were on the charging box (basically put one end of cable in box and other end into the car). There was no mention of pressing a start button and nor did I see one. (That's not to say there wasn't one and I missed it)

The charging point was at Corbert Court, Kilworth, Co Cork.

I charged my car at home lasts night using the 3 pin plug, no problem there at all. Red light on and car charged. Charged it again today at an ESB charger and all was normal.

However I have noticed that when I turned on the car today sometimes the white charging symbol comes up and then disappears. I have never seen that until today.

Hope this info might help shed some light.

I see from https://www.esb.ie/our-businesses/ecars/charge-point-map this place has
    Type-2 AC Socket 22kW

Maybe I am missing something here but the Outlander has two ports
Type 1 and CHAdeMO charging ports.

Which port on the car did you use?
Did you use a type 2 to type 1 converter?

I assume your car is still in warranty? Maybe swing by dealer and ask about it.

Not to sound condesending, but is it definitely the charging light turned white, and not something that looks like it? I've only ever seen flashing red or solid red.

Normally lights on a dash don't change colour. There are usually two seperate light for a change of colour. Think of main and full headlights....green-blue.

Biko thanks for all the info. Definitely used the right port.

Soarer you are right to question what I actually saw as I am just getting used to the world of charging. All I can say for certain was that while I had the car plugged in there was no red symbol just a white symbol that looked like a plug and I took this to be the charging symbol.

    Cool.

You said you "charged it again today at an ESB charger and all was normal". Was that a chademo charger or Type 2 charger?
If it was a Type 2, it points to a problem with Corbett Court's charger. If it wasn't maybe find another Type 2 somewhere to test it?

The fact you can 3 pin charge points to a charger problem. Just guessing though.

It was a type 2 charger. Fast chargers are few and far between here in the Kingdom:).

So you use some sort of adapter?

No, any EV can charge at a type 2 female SCP which are standard in Ireland and UK.

You need a cable with a type 2 male at one end and then the connector for the car at the other. Same as a gen 1 leaf for instance

Sounds like a charger issue to be honest.

Just don't eat there anymore! ;)

I used that charge point recently enough. No issues with it, that’s not to say it hasn’t developed a fault since.

I don’t know anything about the Outlander charge lights so I don’t have insight there.
