Suggestions for estate/SUV

My folks are looking to update from a 2010 Focus Estate 1.6 TDCi to something a bit newer with less mileage and lower repair costs as it's starting to need work done.

The budget is ~12-14k (they're looking for monthly payments of around €200-250). They'll probably be looking for a dealer with finance available and something on the warranty.

They were looking at 2014 and 2015 cars, in particular some of the Kia Ceeds and Sportages seem to be in budget, which are tempting because of the long warranty. There's a couple of Octavia and Superb estates too. I even saw a Mazda 6 auto 2.2L diesel in budget.

Any suggestions or comments on any of these models?

Superb diesel was recently noted as the most reliable in its class. What car have some info on line. However, unless mileage is beyond 20k annum go petrol.

Thanks. They're rural, so do a fair amount of long distance (minimum 10k trip, usualy 30-50).

Looking at their Focus estate, on DoneDeal people are asking €3k on the low end to €7k on the high end, so should they be looking for around €4-4.5k as trade in value?

Here are some options in local dealers (Castlebar, Mayo).

2015 Toyota Auris Estate 1.4 diesel, 48k miles
2015 Opel Astra Estate 1.6 diesel, 88k miles
2013 Hyundai i40 Tourer Comfort 1.7 diesel, 52k miles (older, but great condition).

    Any of these to avoid?

i40's are infamous for sh1te clutches. Warranty won't cover them either.

I'd say the auris out of them 3 listed.

Any reason why they are looking at two very different class of vehicle?

The boot size in the SUVs are not great, we've owned a qashqai and ix35 in the past so have experience of both. Elderly people generally find the SUVs easier to get into and out of so that's a positive.

I currently drive a ce'ed estate and love it. The gearratios are excellent and the boot space is very good. Most importantly for me, it's a 2011 car that I've owned for four years and I've never had a single issue with it other than usual wear and tear items (discs and pads, wipers, tires, oil etc.)

Skoda Octavia boot is bigger than that of the Mazda 6 but the Superb has the biggest boot of all, alongside the Merc E class.

We were looking at cars like that and got a c-max instead. I thibk it's like an mpv-shaped focus. Delighted with it, suggest checking it out if there are any available. Think it was 13k for a 2013 2l diesel early this year. The boot is huge.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks, all input much appreciated.

The drive height and getting in is a plus. And they liked a friend's Sportage when they were in it. But I think they're leaning towards an estate.

2015 Skoda Superb S Estate 1.6 TDI CR

It's a manual, has 85,548 miles and is a UK import with 1 previous owner. The original UK reg is OV15 GKU.

Any comments on this one? Where's the best place to check a UK reg?

I have heard good things about Superb estates.

I think the mileage looks genuine. I did a couple of checks (found 50% discount coupons/links so did both):

    AutoCheck report

    HPIcheck report

It'd be due a timing belt soon 1.6tdi intervals are usually every 5 years or 200,000km whichever comes first.

This is a first, it makes the 9-5 estate look small :)

The dealer did timing belt & water pump at no extra cost.
