Larch Cladding

We are considering a larch cladding on the exterior of our house and the architect has proposed a vertical rain screen profile similar to this - https://goo.gl/images/yNM43q

I can find lots of references to horizontal rain screen but very few verticaI. I am concerned that because this type of board is attached with a 2cm gap between boards that we'd be asking the waterproof membrane behind the cladding to work too hard in our wet Irish climate.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Very popular at the moment

    Assuming timber frame construction?

You will be installing a breathable black membrane behind the cladding

My preference would treated cross battens behind

Not sure where your based but similar detail is on the cork train station.

(Breather membrane in cold side of insulation, Vapour barrier / air-tightness membrane warm side)
