So, i have a new build.. with traditional cement block chimney, 8 inch clay liners surrounded by sand/lime. i want to put in a stove in the chimney alcove. its 1.4m to the mantel.

Can i just get the stove connected directly to the 8 inch flu liners in the chimney using a flu adapter? I appreciate that the flexi flu liner will increase stove efficiency, but is that all? i have a stove in my old house connected directly to 8 inch chimney liner via adapter and it works perfectly.

Chimney sweep says he is encountering lots of instances where 316 liner is failing after a few years and the heavier 904 is maybe lasting a few years more. My own mother has the 904 and he says she will need to replace next year.

I appreciate this should be directed to my stove installer, but i would just like to hear peoples views...
