Multizone Heating

    Hi All,

    Just wanted to ask what should happen here:

    My house had multizone heating installed using Hive Thermo's and automatic valves blah blah, zones were upstairs downstairs and hot water... all worked nicely..

    Then we had work done on the house and the boiler moved and the pipes moved...

    Now I think something is amiss... when ALL the zones are off the boiler still periodically fires and obviously brings itself up to temperature. It never did this before...

    I am now wondering if the spark or the plumber arsed up something...

    Is it reasonable to expect that when all zones closed the boiler should NOT fire at all?

    Should the power be cut to the boiler at that point? (pump too?)

    Sounds like to boiler now has a permeant feed from the timer (or Hive receiver) rather than be fired via the micro-switches on your motorised valves.

    Easy test, when you turn on heat (or hot water) does the boiler move fire instantly, or is there a 30-60second delay before it starts it's process.
    If it's instant, then they have wired it incorrectly (as it takes the motorised valve 30-60seconds to open, and call the boiler for heat)

    There should always be a permanent live supply to the boiler, but a switched live for demand for heat.
    The boiler should not be firing up on its own without demand like you describe.

    So if I turn on a zone it takes 2-3min to fire. The rads get hot in the mean time as the boiler itself is hot. It’s only I guess once the zones cold water makes it back to the boiler it fires and heats that.

    But yes the boiler randomly fires. If I turn up the dial on the boiler itself (thermo I assume) it will fire with all the zones off.

    Its not wired correctly, boiler is getting permanent feed on switched live, have them back to check it.

    Out of curiosity what should be the order of things?
    basically as before there is only a socket out by the boiler to which the pump and boiler are plugged into. How should it be wired as it was previously or correctly?

    I think it should be something like this:
    Controller opens motorized valves.Once any of them is open they start circulating pomp and send signal to boiler to come on. The boiler then checks if its internal water temperature is lower then set and comes on until it reaches that temperature.

    Right now your boiler is always called for heat on and whenever its internal temperature drops by set amount (hysteresis) it starts heating itself again to set temperature. As there is very little water inside it only comes on for short time. Your boiler should not fire up with all the motorized valves closed and circulating pump off.
    Can you check if you have motorized valve on DHW tank zone?

    Yes there is a motorised valve on all the zones including the hot water tank
