Lots of things to do and your hotel should have lots of flyers in the reception. Some of the boat tours are nice if the kids are old enough to do that.
Some nice markets too if thats your thing

The water parks are great fun but a bus is needed to get there.

    what ages are the kids?

The Slide & Splash water park is the best of the bunch, probably one of the best I've been to in Europe
    Go Karting also in Almancil
Plenty great beaches (Praia da Marinha and Redonodo da cova are 2 of my favourites)

    Have you a car?

Kids are 18 and 22, but are not the clubbing drug type (thank god)
    The karting sounds great,
Ye the elder wants to go to some super beach that is 50 mins by bus from our hotel

We are all in agreement to see the old town is for one night, and the rest to stay near the new strip

If the kids are 18 & 22, then skip Karting at Almancil and head over to the Autodromo near Lagos

Its a huge track and better for their age

The beach called Praia da marinha is fantastic

Also small village called Carvoieiro is really nice in the evening

Good village vibe, nice restaurants and little square down by the beach where they have sometimes music with a few bars to sit outside

Town of Armaco de Pera aswell has some really good restaurants
