Cistern leaking into toilet

    Hi all,

Had a airlock which has now been fixed and new issue is a leak from cistern to toilet. So just a constant flow of water from the cistern to the bowl. I turned off the inlet valve to the toilet and the flow stopped which makes me think it's not the seal that's the problem, but rather the inlet (that fills the cistern, i dont know the name).

There's tonnes of videos online but I was hoping someone can give me the basic troubleshooting steps to narrow down what exactly the cause is and if I can fix it myself. Thanks a million!

Update: I don't have time to mess with it yet but it seems that the ballcock doesn't have the space to move freely to close the water inlet at all - it's hitting off the inside of the cistern and never shuts off. So I think I just need to swivel the mechanism that is on in order to allow it to close the inlet. Will report back once I have a chance to try it.

If its an older style then you can adjust the ballcock in several ways, including just bending the arm appropriately, though the ball itself will swivel off-centre so you should get all the adjustment you need there

Dual top button cistern runs into toilet constantly. Held up ballcock until cistern empty. Flow into toilet resumed as soon as ballcock released. The siphon into toilet bowl is being maintained even when cistern is empty. Advice please.

So you are saying the ballcock works? If so then adjust it so it cuts off the flow of water earlier so the water in the cistern doesn't reach the level where it overflows.
