    Here are my demands.

    • Replace all black traffic lights with a tasteful shade of yellow.

The black traffic lights are too bulky, ugly and add nothing to the urban realm.

We can hang some of the new yellow ones out of overhead wires and cut costs on poles.

    • Replace all intersections with partial or full cloverleafs.

Make it illegal to have any less than a partial cloverleaf.

    • Remove all roundabouts.

    Too British.

    • New motorway width guidelines in cities

Minimum 6 lane freeways within every city boundary with 12 lane minimum recommended.

    • Replace all N roads with motorways

    More to follow.

What would you like to see?

I want the traffic light sequence changed to include both the red-orange combo prior to turning green and the flashing green prior to turning orange, like they have in Austria.

Why not make all light changes easily predictable?

ReSurface all roads so they're comfortble and safe to cycle on, on 19mm tyres

Remove the hard traffic island at intel to allow safe space for cycling

Jail the engineers who signed off on the tramlines for the greenline but failed to accomodate people cycling

Build a dedicated cycling route as part of every roads scheme

Make a safe and sane way to get from Rush to and from Donabate by bike

Build a bypass of Dublin, Cork and Limerick for all road users.

Make sure the bypass of Galway accomodates the desire lines of people walking and cycling

Enforce laws and fine the **** out of lawbreakers. Many lives will be saved.
Complete Sandycove to Sutton Cycle route.
Give 10% of the transport budget to pedestrians and cyclists.

I'd suggest that you just move to the US. We do not need 6 lane freeways, every N road replaced with a motorway or every jucntion being a clover leaf. And countries all over the world have roundabouts, including your beloved USA. At this stage I'm not actually sure if you're just trolling or not.

    My wish list:

1: Ignore everything in the OP. This isn't the US. Thankfully
    2: See 1

If you want US roads, move to the US. You'll quickly tire of them.

And how would you hang the overhead wires OP?

    :D

There would be less poles required overall...

Yes, I believe we do need US style highways. We are getting there...slowly...so we need to pick up the pace expanding our roads. With an extra two lanes each way on the M50 and proper flyovers people will see the benefits!

Don't know why other posters are talking about cyclists...

Don't know why other posters are talking about cyclists...
Because I cycle on roads, and I want better infrastructure

    1. Stop destroying smooth and quiet road surface by placing tons of gravel on top of it.

    2. Upgrade entire Atlantic Corridor to DC.

ANPR on all major roads to police uninsured, untaxed and non nct'd cars, would reduce traffic on these routes.

The only thing on my wish list is for the maintenance of local secondary and tertiary roads to be abandoned. It utterly pointless from an infrastructure perspective and has been and will continue to be a sinkhole for public funds.

Move large objects from bends like poles and large trees.

Fix the roads that have the black dot sign saying dangerous section.

Clean roads signs and remove trees/shrubs blocking them. Same for traffic lights blocked by trees. Often those are also pedestrian crossings which makes them lethal.

On all roundabouts entrance, paint signs for right lane 3 o'clock exit and left lane is first turn or straight ahead.

Any bus lanes approaching roundabouts should continue through the roundabout so we don't have a sudden second lane just before roundabout which then causes chaos. First roundabout on N3 approaching Ashtown for Dublin drivers springs to mind.

Remove road signs on roundabout entrances that block visibility. Castlebar has one of these as you go from Dublin to Westport direction. Same roundabout, every election, posters are on that sign completely blocking visibility.

As some of Europe does, ban parking at junctions within 5 metres. No need for yellow lines, just ban with a big fine. Makes it safer for drivers out of junction and pedestrians.

Remove tractors and bikes from 120kph roads.
In the interest of improved roads, the best outcome is to stop adding loads of new drivers each year, so pedestrian would not have to wait to cross the road in built up areas, more buses, more student accommodation, vat of commuting equipment like waterproof shoes, rain jackets etc, like a walk to work scheme. Svhool bus system for every child in the country, and removal of barriers for people to attend their local school. Vat of petrol for people who car pool. Free buses!!!!!

    Boreens

In fairness alot of locals have to meet the council half way for the cost of resurfacing them roads

My wish is quite simple, it is that the High Court sees through the bluff that the NIMBY M28 ' steering group ' are constantly sprouting and that this vital piece of infrastructure can just be gotten on with.

That's already an FCN offence. €40 fine AFAIK

Absolutely. Most rules of the road are rarely enforced

Biggest wish would be the upgrade of the N25 to motorway status from Cork to Rosslare Harbour. This is a busy route that has fallen out of favour over the years.

In 1988 the plan was for a full dual carriageway on this route. Only the eastern parkway was completed by 1997. Then the interurbans took priority. Transport 21 made it part of the Atlantic Corridor and before the downturn most of it was due for an upgrade to dual carriageway. This included two long continuous sections from Cork to Youghal and from west of Dungarvan to east of New Ross. These schemes were mothballed after 2008, with only the Waterford bypass complete and the New Ross bypass currently under construction.

It looks like it has fallen further down the pecking order with the advent of Brexit, as priority seems to be going to the N24; in order to link the western seaboard to the south east ports.

In the 2018-2027 plan, all we have is Carrigtwohill-Midleton, Waterford-Glenmore, and Rosslare-Wexford. This leaves out 2 badly needed sections between Midleton and Youghal and around Dungarvan. IMO Dungarvan-Waterford is ok for now, but the 5 sections above if addressed would make it a far better road, in light of the New Ross bypass opening next year.

Outer orbital route around Dublin, even a partial orbital of say Balbriggan - Dunshaughlin - Maynooth - Naas - Blessington + HQ single lane link to N11. (M'way through Wicklow mountains probably impractical)

Galway City Bypass - tomorrow please...

Upgrade N6 at Athlone to full Motorway status... drive this a lot, it bugs me that it's incomplete...

Upgrade N10 from M9 exit to Kilkenny ring road to Dual Carriageway - it bugs me every time I drive it...

Limerick - Cork Motorway - tomorrow please...

Limerick - Waterford Motorway or HQDC

Cork to Rosslare Motorway or HQDC

    Carrick-on-Shannon Bypass

Upgrade Atlantic Corridor not even to HQDC but just a good standard of road... (Charlestown to Sligo)

    N80 Improvements along total length.

120kms of a central spine HQDC to act as joining up link from all sides of the country to the middle an on to the main Routes/Motorways towards NE/SE/SW/NW Longford-Athlone-Birr-Thurles-Horse and Jockey(M8), failing that a serious upgrade of N55 & N62 would almost suffice....

Lots of town/village bypasses on N routes, pedestrian underpasses for N routes.... parking enforcement in Towns and villages on N routes...

Getting rid of the crap loose chippings mixed with tar resurfacing that seems to be happening a lot on regional roads.

Cats eyes placed near dangerous bends on regional roads and boreens.

Speaking of regional roads there should be a set standard of what safety features they should have i.e cats eyes, barriers, hard shoulder etc.

One thing I want gotten rid of is the stupid roundabout with two lanes marked on the approach, but the roundabout is too small to have two lanes around it and dont have two lanes marked.

It would be a whole lot easier if they had one lane on the approach and two on the exit for 100m or so, like the roundabouts in France. That way, with the two lanes, you can overtake the truck trying to accelerate.....

For example, check out the roundabout at the Waterford end of the Youghal bypass. I was approaching the roundabout driving a wide enough vehicle (coach built motorhome) from the Cork side heading straight through. Based on past experience, I took both lanes on the approach and still some dunderhead taking the third exit decided to try to shoot up on the right. Naturally there wasn't room (quart into pint bottle) and he decided to blow his horn at me.

Imagine how bad it must be for artic trucks.
