Longest stretch of road with least over taking opportunities....

Traveled along the N17 from Charlestown to sligo over the Weekend. It has been a while since I traveled it and forgot just bad and dangerous it is.

Between Curry and Collooney it is pretty must double white lines all the way, no hard shoulder, no where to pull in and bends or dips/hills. Awful bit of road, I don't think there is anything that could be done to improve it, new road badly needed.

Does anyone else have another stretch to match or beat it?

How far is it between Curry and Collooney? That would help!

It doesn't really count now the M9 exists but the old N9 Waterford/Kilkenny has long stretches that are impossible to overtake on, used to be a real bugbear of mine as a delivery driver back then.

Worst for this in my experience is(each are national secondary but I think the latter two should be national primary)

    1.Ardee to Delvin

    2.Birr to Borrisokane

    3.Lismore to Fermoy

Ah you have about 1.5km between cloncat ( Top filling station) and the westmeath border to over take. Apart from that Ardee to delvin is shocking but more so Carllinstown to Ardee especially with all the heavy agri machines that do be crossing and that junction on the Nobber / Navan road . How has the N52 not got priority over the Regional?

N14 Lifford to the start of the Letterkenny DC isn't much better, I'd guess around 20km. Constant meandering bends and narrow road with no shoulder, there's a couple of brief overtaking spots but traffic clogs up so much that its usually impossible

    Good point about the distance.....

It's 41km from Curry to Collooney.

nothing worse than being stuck behind a camper or caravan on its way to strandhill or bundoran.

N24 Waterford to Limerick, nigh on impossible to over take except for a few places

When your coming south if you dont make use of those two climbing lanes out of Grange and your stuck behind a brand new fiesta with a Dan Dooley or Avis sticker.... (ive been that soldier). Up to this year i used do on average 70 runs from Mayo to Donegal annually... At 5:30/6 am you could leave Charlestown and be anywhere between Tullaghan or Ballyshannon (just about legally) in a hour... The return journey an hour from Drumcliffe would be lucky to see Charlestown, thats 25km plus lost.

Lovely part of the world but i dont miss the comute

I have had to use the inside lane to get by someone in a rental car hogging the overtaking lane. I couldn't let the opportunity pass. You need a good run of the lights in Sligo too.

The N22 from west of Ballyvourney to the Re na nDoiri turn off is up there. 9.5km of zero chance of passing slow traffic, and absolutely atrocious road at that.

There's another shortish stretch on the Delvin side of the N52/R162 crossroads junction that you can overtake on. Bits of the N52 Kells bypass are suitable too. Also a cash collection van now sometimes lurking around the bends past the Cloncat station as you head northwards.

Wait until it becomes a bus priority corridor

In general the roads in Sligo are amongst the worst. The forgotten county.

The current N4 between Longford and the Mullingar bypass. My car is an older diesel, very little pickup between 50-65 MPH and though the road has hard shoulders etc most of the way and lots of straight stretches, if you're behind some gob****e going slow for no reason and they don't use the HS to let you pass ... good luck overtaking with the oncoming traffic.

they have resurfaced the road and one of the climbing lines is out of use, looking at the road markings , i am not sure its going to be put back.
