Weather proofing a kennel

I ordered a kennel and delivery will be later this week. It's a wooden kennel with a bitumen slate roof.

I would like to weather proof the wood and the roof with a varnish or a seal to protect it from the rain. I had a quick look online at paints and varnishes but there's so many, I don't know where to start. What do you think I would need for the job. Thanks

no varnish or sealers the timber need to breathe
so something like

if timber supports, keep them up off the ground, i.e. not permanently wet

Thank you for your reply. You see, I know absolutely nothing about these things. Thanks for the recommendation for the paint. I will have a look online for delivery.

How about the roof on something like this? How would I protect the roof from the rain and caving in in the future from the wet and the rain?

Fairly poor one too. But they did replace 22 buckets for me

Check it has enough insulation for outdoor use in the winter too.
