We are in a period of mass population movement to Europe. One could argue that it is fortuitous that Ireland is an island with crap weather and a serious housing crisis.

A shortage of housing hasn't stopped the illegal migrant population of a suburb of Paris increasing to 400,000.

Once again proof that its not only Ireland that has housing issues, but to listen to some you'd think we were the worst in the world for housing people.

In fact, we aren't even the worst on the island.

Dey cant take ur houses or de jobs or de wimminz

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

In the spirit of this policy shouldn't we start knocking down some
houses. Take a wrecking ball to a few housing estates. Make this country
    really inhospitable.

The best thing we could do now is instigate a police state, that'll keep 'em away.

Upside of the housing crisis is that it is making hotel owners and institutional landlords very rich.
Some would postulate that this is even the reason for the housing crisis.

Wouldn't we need an actual Police force first?
