painting an old wall

    hi

I am painting a wall in a 100 year old house. I patched up some of the holes of the wall as there was loose chippings failing off the wall. I repaired it in a way that I could paint it. I am only using the house as storage so walls need not be perfect but I patched up any areas that needed to be done.

However one of the walls was damp over the years and even though are no leaks now, the wall isn't fully dry. I am after applying few coats of vinyl brilliant white paint and part of the wall is discolouring to a brown colour and this isn't helping the situation. I sprayed an aerosol can of white on to the wall to begin with to act as a primer.

I am just wondering I have a can of aluminium oxide that I was goin to spray on that patch of the wall to see if it would stop the discoloration before i cover it with white paint again.

anyone got any recommendations regards the painting and discolouration?

    Thanks.
