Washing machine won't move to empty cycle no matter what I try. Live in apartment and worried I won't be able to get it emptied to have it removed. Anyone have similar problem and what did you do?

Have you checked there is definetly power to the socket supplying the machine ? Can you check the plug fuse ?

There is a drainoff for removing the filter basket at the front bottom of most machines this can be used to drain if you have a shallow dish to keep catching the water until empty.

Plenty of towels and open the pump filter cap on the bottom right

Thanks. Would the water pour out as there is a lot in the machine. Am afraid there would be a flood!

Yes. Try to put a flat tray under it. Our oven tray fits.
There will be something stuck in it that you'll have to pull out. An underwire or a colour catcher sheet were two of our culprits!

The filter is blocked. Remove the clothes and throw them in the sink, then remove as much water as you can with a pan or a wok before opening the filter casing on the bottom and removing whatever's caught..sock, G-string or hair clip in my experience anyway.

Yep, same as above. Had it a few months ago. Washed nieces dress and a little flower button had come off it and clogged the filter. Took 2 minutes to fix once we figured the problem out.

Can watch a YouTube help video if you don't know how. Good luck

Really appreciate all your help. The door won't open so taking the clothes out not an option. I will get the towels and basin etc out and try what is suggested.

Yes there is power. The lights are on but the cycle won't move to rinse and empty.

Common problem by the sound of it. A first for me so I will be thrilled if I manage to sort it myself.

It's usually a simple enough fix but can be a bit messy with water spilling out. When you take the cap off be ready to put it back on again quickly when the tray is half full.
Where are you based in case you can't figure it out ? Someone here may be able to give you a hand..

The outlet pipe is a swan neck hooked into the waste water pipe at the back. If you can pull forward the machine, then lift out the outlet pipe and lower it into a dish/bowl. Most of the water should flow out by gravity. Raise the pipe each time you need to empty the dish/bowl.

If the water level is above the bottom of the door it means A Lot Of Water so beware.
Some machines will allow a shallow tray, but some are less generous. Open the filter cap slowly and carefully to allow you to control how fast the water comes out, be ready for an initial gush of water.
The best way to do it is with the aid of a water vacuum (wet vac), but if you cannot wait until Monday to hire one you could buy one in Argos.

Leave the power off. Mag lock will eventually disengage. Take out the laundry.

Bottom right corner will be a drain.

Have towels and tray to hand.

Twist open the drain slowly and let out a little be of water at a time. That will give you a chance to change the towels if you need to.

    Root out any foreign objects.

Run the machine empty. If it still stalls it.might be the bushes need replacing.

It's only an 80 quid job

Press the power button to switch the machine off and the door should open after a couple of minutes..open bottle of vino while waiting and calm down, when you have it sorted you'll be on top of the world:)

That won't always work if the water isn't getting that far (i.e. a completely blocked filter / impeller ). It's definitely worth trying it first though as it's the easiest first step.

BTW, (OP..) the filter / impeller will most likely need to be cleaned out and removing the hose clips is the easiest way to do this once the water has been drained.

OP here. Just to say my washing machine is sorted. Got help to do what was suggested here with outlet pipe, bucket and towels, (u tube) and then the filter. The blockage was caused by a colour catcher sheet. Was quite messy and lots of water but avoided a flood. I really appreciate the advice and support from everyone as I was very anxious. Thank you.

Thanks for letting us know. BTW similar to this the biggest problem in the sewers is people disposing of wet wipes down the toilet. Lads, they do not degrade, bin them.
