    Hi all,

Starting to notice in some newer games I've been getting recently that I'm not consistently getting 60 fps and sometimes even have some big drops to 20-30 for a few seconds which really does get on my nerves.

Run down of my current specs:

    GPU: Gigabyte RX 480 4gb
    CPU: AMD FX 8350 8-core 4.8ghz o/c'd
    RAM: 4GBx2 DDR3 corsair vengeance
    OS: W10 pro
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3

Have an SSD for OS and sometimes games if they have particularly long loading times.

Im really looking for the best value I could get with a good performance increase. Want an intel CPU so that means new motherboard which also means I might as well get some DDR4 RAM so looking to be expensive.

Think I would get much for the parts I have to sell and do you think my GPU is fine for now?

Im not looking for ultra settings, Just high at 1080p.

Thank you all in advance and looking forward to some suggestions

Yeah your RX480 (only come in 4GB or 8GB) is fine for 1080p high/ultra. If it must be intel I'd go for the i3 8100 and a Z370 motherboard.

I would probably go for an i5-8400 and H310 board (get one with m2 slot) as it would cost the same and perform a lot better.

If you want to do it on the cheap, you could get a new H81M motherboard for €50, buy a 2nd hand i7-4770 for around €150 (still an excellent gaming CPU) and re-use your old ram.

At this point even a €15 1st gen i7 from 2010 is actually way better than the FX-8350 in games, it was never a great CPU but it's aged very badly.

Should get €100 for your FX + board, give or take.

Sorry, yes I meant 4GB RX 480. I wouldn't say it must be Intel but with my experience with AMD has been poor to say the least. Although I don't know much about their new ryzen line up.

I'm liking the idea of getting an i7 4770. 200e incl MOBO for what looks to be a nice upgrade in performance?

Sorry for the self bump but I would really like some feed back, Planning to buy this Friday. So its either new Mobo, i3 8100 and new ram, total cost incl shipping is €312.
Or a second hand i7 4770 off a reputable seller on ebay and a new mobo for roughly €200.

Is it worth the extra 112 euro? As I said I;m just looking for consistent frame rate on high settings at 1080p on newer releases.

i7-4770 is a better deal & more future-proof processor since it has hyper-threading.

I would recommend getting a decent cooler to prevent any thermal throttling & increase lifespan (e.g. Arctic Freezer 33, Deepcool Gammax S40)

What motherboard are you thinking? Since it's a relatively-powerhungry CPU you shouldn't cheap out too much.

Probably just use the cooler I currently use. Cooler master hyper evo. Thinking of getting a Asus H81M-Plus for €60 incl shipping.

    I'd recommend getting at least a B85 chipset, e.g.
    Asus B85M-E B85M E mATX
H81 is too limited for anything but the lowest-end machines IMHO

Have a look through the LGA1150 tier list on Toms Hardware and get a Tier 1 board.
