    Hi

Not sure if this should be in here or in Work Problems

Anyway, I just got offered a job with company A, it seems like a good company to work with, decent pay and benefits etc but it's not my number one choice

I was meant to have a final round interview with Company B earlier this week but it got delayed till next week, it's my preferred choice as the role is more interesting to me. Company B are aware they are my preferred choice and they are also aware of the job offer from Company A

I hate stringing people along and I want to get back to company A (it's done through a recruiter) but not sure what to say. Do I just let the recruiter know that I'm in the final process with another company and want to weigh up my options?

I was told that Company B would let me know pretty much straight away if I got the job or not, so I would know by next Thursday if the interview was successful.

I think that's the best option.

There's nothing Company A could do to become your first choice?

Not a whole amount really, Company B would be better for my career development and the role seems more interesting. I'm pretty lucky regardless as Company A seems like a great place to work as well but the role itself isn't as interesting as the role with Company B!

Fair enough! Well congrats either way.

It's a tough one. I'd be the same - I wouldn't want to string them along by verbally accepting and then withdrawing later. That is probably the safest option to keep Company A warm though.

Maybe just start by telling the recruiter that you'll let them know next week. You're definitely keen but at the final stages with another company and don't want to rush into a decision. Company A needing to wait another few working days isn't the end of the world.

I would be like you and not want to be stringing people along.
However in my current role we are always getting people accepting and then not turning up for training / induction  When we call to follow up 99 percent of the time its like oh yeah I have something else thanks

    Thanks for the replies

Yeah, I won't accept offer from Company A and then not bother turning up, that would only come back to haunt me down the line. I'll let the recruiter know about the other interview and I'll know by Thursday at the latest whether I'll take the job or not.

Company A weren't supposed to be offering the role till the middle of next week anyway, so I guess it's not the end of the world if they have to wait a few more days
