Cheap laptop recommendation - €250 or less

Been asked to source a cheap laptop for a relative. Budget is €250 max

Will only be used for Facebook, Netflix and Ms office. Any recommendations?

Preferably new, 4gb ram, windows and not too chunky. I know i don't ask for much!

250 is pretty unrealistic for new - check adverts for 2nd hand

i'd get this (ips screen and ssd and ok processor) but you may have pay customs - 270 incl shipping

Yes, I would agree here. 250 simply isn't enough for a fully fledged laptop. 350 is where there is decent value:

EDIT: Something like this would be well within budget if you can live with an 11" screen. Processor isnt great but at least it comes with 4GB RAM and a 64GB SSD with Windows 10. Should be nippy enough for general browsing, emails etc..

wouldn't recommend 11 inch for long-term use - keyboard not comfortable to type on due to cramped size.

You won't get better than this on that budget, comes from UK as well so no customs/warranty issues.

Pretty much any recent laptop is suitable for that kind of usage. I have used laptopsdirect refurbished outlet many times. Theyre stuff is generally distance selling returns that have been refurbished and reboxed so basically new.

Plenty of 14"-15.6" options on there with 4gb starting around the 150mark including vat.

If using them compare .co.uk to .ie if you have revolut to see if cheaper than .ie - sometimes is sometimes isn't

As another poster said the 350mark is where the real bang for buck is , if that's not in your range (and probably for such basic usage isn't necessary) then a good quality refurb with a warranty included is where the value is

Spend a bit extra and buy a new laptop with an SSD and decent enough processor

FYI, ms office is never included with a laptop, if you don't have an old copy, you'll need to buy a student version or subscription from Microsoft.

Its a 1 TB drive, so plenty of space but slow, although the one I linked to is probaly eMMc drive so a little faster than the 1TB, processors are the same kind of proformance at this level, you need to watch out for the FreeDos operating system, so you'll have to put windows on it if you want it.


Now that I see it, the laptop TerrorFirmer linked to is probaly the best of the bunch for the price

Thanks for the reply. Some of the reviews on Amazon have kind of put me off that. I'll see if the budget can be increased a little.

Yeah if you can go another 100 you could get a good SSD and an core i3 the cheaper ones can break your heart with load speeds etc
