P21 Underpayment

Hi, and sorry that the details are not precisely stated, because it just happend to me few minutes ago and I'm in distraught right now :(

So i did a PAYE online service almost a year ago to get some money back from revenue,at leas that's what i was hoping for.
So i did it for 2014/2015/2016 i havent done the 2017 because i did them back in 2017 so it wasnt possible yet. Now im afraid to apply for P21 from 2017... and i just checked them just now

2014 was fine, i was working for an agency and it was "balanced"
in 2015 i changed work in april and i got overpayment of ~€160 which was cool
and then in 2016 ... Underpayment ~1,000 euro. Offset from PAYE €160 2015 and i have to pay them ~900e.

I was on full time in 2015 for couple of months, then i got my hours reduced and went on jobseeker, i got a jobseeker benefit just for a week or 2, and then they changed it to jobseeker allowance on their own. On the P21 from 2016 i have no info that i was taking jobseeker allowance, but i've read somewhere "The other thing is that if you we're claiming job seekers benefit and then went back to work they include it as income and charge tax on it, job seekers allowance is ok though." ( or is it not???) Then i got back on full time employment in 2016 i think it was at beginning of august, roughly.

To be honest i have no idea why is it like that, can someone please help me out, i dont have a 900e to pay them at the moment, and they said i have to send a check for the 900e.

If it's not possible to get help over the board i live in Dublin and i can meet with someone if it's possible to sort that out. If anymore details needed please let me know. I'm distraught right now :(

Please help me out, or give me the right direction on what should i do next.

I really had no idea what i was doing, friend of mine told me that i should go online and finish forms, and i did. Pretty much i checked it with P60 and everything was ok, i was just pressing next next next and was done in couple of minutes. Is this caused because there is no details on Jobseeker Allowance?? Sorry i have no idea about tax stuff :(

    Thanks, cheers.

Pop up your figures here and we will have a look. What you need for 2016 is your gross pay, your paye paid, and USC paid. We will also need the amount of jobseekers benefit you received for 2016.

It's jobseekers benefit which is taxable not jobseekers allowance. Please double-check that the figure recorded on the P21 is the same as the figure you have for the the jobseekers benefit received.

i only had the jobseeker benefit for a week or 2 but it was in 2015, I would have to check it at home for exactly how long but it was very short. Then they changed it to allowance, but it was in 2015, which was ok.
The problem i have is 2016 when i had no jobseeker benefit, i only had jobseeker allowance that year, does that make any difference?

I'll get the numbers soon, im working late today and no break now , typing quick in the office while boss not here.

But thank You very much for the fast reply. I'll get the numbers when i can, thank you!

    .
This does not sound right. Usually they will reduce future tax credits.

You can do 2017 online as that tax year is completed.

I'll just write whatever I can here, what i found on P21, Im really sorry if some of the info is not required but i never done this kind of thing before, and now i dont really want to do it again, i dont know why did i listen to my friend back then :/
    That's the info from P21:

    Charged as follows 13.677.00 @ 20% = 2.735.40E
    Tax due 2.735.40E
    Gross Tax Payable 2.735.40E

    Tax Credits 1650.00
    Tax Deducted 14.53

Then in the section Income chargable to USC
    USC deducted 166.23

and i got no Jobseeker Benefits that year, only Jobseeker Allowance as i had the same part-time days and hours every week.

anything else i need to post? I can search for my P60 if needed. Please let me know and thank You for the help really.

You are missing a tax credit of 1650 there per the P21 info unless there's something I'm missing. If you are single and in a straightforward PAYE role, then you are given a personal tax credit of 1650 and a PAYE credit of 1650.

Log into your Revenue account and fill in the form 12 for 2016 and ensure you've claimed both credits. There shouldn't be an underpayment and you should be due a small refund of 14.53 euro.

Ok thanks, I'll try to do that when I get home.
The name of the form is Form 12 yes? and how do I claim both credits or is it related to the form12 when i will fill it? Is it possible to get a more detailed info how to do it? Sorry i know i'm annoying but i have no clue what to do, i never done anything related to that. I can't check it now and if i wont know how to do it when im back home i think I'll go crazy, still whole night before me at work and i cant stand it today because of that :(

Is there any more info i can provide to help from P21 or maybe P60?

Ok so i logged in and i got this for year 2016

Please confirm, edit or delete tax credits and reliefs already on record. Add new tax credits or reliefs not already on record.

    Add tax credits:

Additional tax credits are not available

    Confirm Description Gross amount Action

Personal Tax Credit €1,650.00 and it has "✓" beside

and i checked the 2015 year

Description || Amount on revenue record || Amount claimed || Status
    Personal Tax Credit | €1,650.00 | €1,650.00 | Confirmed

    Employee Tax Credit | €1,650.00 | €1,650.00 | Confirmed

i think i understand now what's missing, but how can i change it? and why is it missing in 2016? i only clicked "view" should i click "amend" and would i be possible to change it then?

If that's all that's on the P21 then that's enough. Log into your online account, go to PAYE services and go to review your tax 2014 -2017. Click review type form 12 for 2016. You will have to follow the on-screen promos for it to work. The only thing you need to change is your credits to ensure you've got the personal and PAYE credit.

Alternatively send a request through myenquiries to ask Revenue to do it for you but you could be waiting a while.

seems i cant add anything there

what if I press "amend" ? Or should I contact revenue about it?

So it is not my fault or anything? I should not owe them that 900euro?

I'm off for a while, boss went bonkers on me just now. I'll check later on.

Really much appreciated !! Thanks for the help!

As relax carry on noted, you appear to be missing a tax credit for 2016 totalling €1650 called the 'Employee credit'. If you have that credit applied to your account (and it should be available to you assuming that you had employment income in 2016), your 2016 tax bill will be reduced to Nil.

If it can't be added online, you'll probably need to contact the tax office to see if there's some reason for it being omitted.

Contact Revenue, they are helpful and reasonable.

Revenue would not have asked you for a cheque. Those amounts, if correct, would be taken off your tax credits next year.

Did you complete the P21 on MyAccount or?

@all thanks for all the help, I'll post later what the result. Im waiting for a call from accountant from our company, already told the boss that yesterday and he sent him an e-mail. I'll just wait for his call and then I'll call revenue myself, as probably i will have to fix it myself.

Hi, just came back from holiday yesterday, did not call before it, was afraid of bad news which would spoilt my holiday. I just got off the phone with Revenue, they said they will sort that out, and that there's missing tax for 2017 too, is that not weird a bit? Might there be something wrong with my employer payments or something? I need to sort that out, because i got a call that i'm going part-time now, to which i wont agree, and i'm looking for new job, so i hope there wont be any more problems after with the old employer when i go to new job. They said it should be reviewed in next few days. I hope everything will be fine. Thanks again for all the help.

Did you have a medical card at the time of the under payment? or was your income from employment in prior years less that 13,000.

If so check your P21, if your underpayment was for USC you will need to notice Revenue of your medical card. A medical card holder pays reduced rates of USC & those on low employment incomes are USC exempt.

Unfortunately if you had a medical card in previous years or were USC exempted, it possible that you were paying the reduced rate or non at all when you should not have been.

i had no medical card, not even the drug scheme card. But it's all sorted now, they just sent me a new p21 and i got ~ 180e which they will send to my account, I'll do 2017 P21 too, since they added the missing 1650E tax.

Thanks all for the help, very much appreciated
