Moving gas box

Apologies for the second thread of the day!

Our gas box is attached to a garage that is being demolished and I have to move it before the building works start.

Had a guy from Gas Networks Ireland out and he said box can be moved to side wall of house and pipe diverted, no problem.

However, they charge 700e to dig a trench to move the pipe. Gas pipe is coming from the front of house and it is just a matter of diverting the pipe to the side wall and then putting up a new box.

I am not experienced in these matters but could I dig the trench myself and save the cost? Would I need a mini digger or could I do it with a spade/shovel? It looks like it's just a matter of digging the trench out from the wall to where it meets the pipe.

Gas Networks Ireland will then connect the pipe and put a new box on the perimeter wall for 200e.

Has anyone done this before and have they any advice? I presume a 2-3 foot deep trench is all that is required?

    Thanks in advance.
