No doubt removed at Eir Sports request.

Meanwhile my basic sat box continues to pick up S4C HD for free and i shall be watching Rugby matches on it and never on eir sports

I do be at a complete loss for words that people continue to pay the likes of sky, virgin and eir for tv with the amount of brainwashing marxist crap and sport pay walls that does be all over it

If everyone had the same mentality towards this the way we did towards the water bills, this crap would collapse in on them and these sports that sell out the fans to line their own pockets would come back begging for us to watch their sports

People need to stop paying these companies to put more bars and walls around them

Are S4C showing live Pro 12 games this season?

I thought Premier Sports had the British Rights.

They kept the rights to some of the Welsh teams matches and TG4 have a load of the Irish ones too

And my Sky box will too - after I've manually tuned it in!

"However, with S4C continuing free-to-air transmissions, viewers who want to watch S4C are advised to add the channel manually on Sky."

    Here's how: https://www.a516digital.com/2015/12/how-can-i-watch-s4c.html

So sky are forcing you to have to manually tune a channel in on a special list that you have to go through an option screen to get to?

You pay a monthly bill for this nonsense?

Turnipman probably pays a monthly bill for encrypted content. Oh the horror of it all.

Sky doesn’t force you to do anything. S4C decided to withdraw it.

This isn’t the S4C that some people might have had in the 1980s and 1990s that time shifted Channel 4 programmes. The channel broadcasts in Welsh only, bar some sporting events that red button English commentary is provided for.. It’s attraction to viewers in this country, sports events aside, is pretty limited given Welsh isn’t taught in Irish schools nor is it a spoken language here. I’m surprised they kept paying to be on the Irish EPG this long tbh.

The only reason any Irish viewers were interested in this at all was for the rugby.

Rugby was the main reason no doubt but they do show some soccer and did show Welsh international soccer WC and EC qualifiers either time delayed or in highlights when Sky had exclusive live rights. The channel also has some excellent musical programmes and some interesting documentaries. While it is primarily aimed at Welsh language speakers, a bit like TG4 all its programmes are subtitled in English. Unlike TG4 it is FTA on satellite and those with Freesat in ROI can record it from epg. Also you can watch programmes live from S4C website and afaik these are not territorially restricted although I may be mistaken.
Tend to think that viewers here in NI get best of both worlds as we have S4C on Sky as well as BBCi player while if you subscribe to Premier Sports you also get Eir Sports 1 (different schedule from Premier Sports unlike Eir Sports 2). RTE1/2 and TG4 are all available on Sky here as well as Freeview although some programmes are geo blocked but most of the population can get all Saorview channels unrestricted via an aerial.

Wales V Ireland on S4c tonight at 7.45 (for those who don't have sky sports)

For a Sky box will removing the Irish viewing card and rebooting the box with the backup remote button pressed in bring it back to the UK epg with S4C included? If so this could just be done for the match if it will work as it is less complicated than adding a new channel.

Not all boxes. It would be easier to tune S4C to other channels.

Tuned S4C HD but the red button just gets stuck on Please Wait. Not sure if I can put up with listening to Welsh for 90 minutes!

Perfect, I just tuned it in manually, as Sky have removed it, it's quite easy - go to home button - settings - manual tuning - and enter the details below, it will then pop up as an option to add after you've entered the details below.

Satellite manual tuning (e.g. for viewers in the Republic of Ireland or mainland Europe):
    Satellite: Astra 2F
    Frequency: 11344
    Polarisation: Vertical
    Symbol Rate 27500 (27.5 Mbaud)
    FEC: 5/6.
    Service ID: S4C Digidol / 55295

Maybe it will kick in after 7:30 when the programme starts, I just tuned in HD, and seen an ad for the game at 7:30, maybe the commentary will kick in then. I'll take Welsh commentary over having to go to the pub and paying €4 x 4 for glasses of pop during the game, and then the crisps, and then the bacon fries, and listening to all the barstoolers talking about how ****e Ireland are (sitting their in a Man City jersey - half cut - and hating you for being supportive of the team, as painful as it is), grand rant over. Enjoy the game!

I think the Rugby and International soccer no longer have an English commentary option

Correct, S4C have rights for Welsh language only. Only Sky have the game in English.

S4C will be showing live Pro 14 rugby. Eir are the primary rights holders for Ireland.

Because TG4 have games plus S4C, so then sky customers wouldn't bother subscribing to eir sports.

Freesat box is great. I watched the wales ire game tonight in hd. Granted no English commentary but sometimes that is a good thing.

One thing to note is how many Welsh players are fluent in the language.

Doesn't your TV have a volume control then?

That language is in a far healthier state than Irish. Nigel Owens hosts ( or used to host) two Welsh language programmes.

haha in the end I switched off at half time but it wasnt because of the Welsh language, it was the dire football on display that did it

I was surprised at that too, though I know Welsh is more widely spoken than Irish. I'd be interested to know if any of the Irish players could give an interview as gaeilge. Coleman maybe? He's from Donegal and has a background in GAA.

A lot of the Welsh go through Welsh speaking primary schools like our Gaelscoileanna.

John Barclay the Scottish player who was with the Scarlets for a few years said his own kids were fluent in the language having gone to school there.

It has, I frequently watch their music programmes.
