2019 VW Jetta?

    I am thinking about a 2019 VW Jetta, however the VW site wont allow me to configure and get a price for the Jetta model at all?

    Is something happening to the Jetta line or am I thinking too far ahead?

    I don’t think we are getting the new model Jetta at all. It’s out in the US already and is nice enough.

    Are they dropping it? Probably makes little sense with the Passat and crossover SUV craze. Was reasonably popular here- good honest motoring but likely not worth it just for the Irish market.

    The latest Jetta is a lovely looking car, saw one in the States, think they are made in Mexico exclusively so possibly are not coming here or to the U.K. Pity if it’s true they are’nt coming here, the old model sold well outside Dublin

    That 2017 is the old model, indeed any 2018 U.K or Irish cars will be the old model too. Not relevant to us but they were selling the last of the old models in the States for $13,000!

    There is no new Jetta for Europe as it has been dropped by VW due to poor sales. Closest thing in the VAG range size wise would probably be the Skoda Octavia.

    Honda have just launched a saloon version of the new Civic if you want a compact saloon. It's a bit more conservatively styled than the hatchback and costs about 1k more than a similar spec hatchback. Downside is that the saloon doesn't come with the 1.5 turbo engine. The saloon gets the 1.0 turbo petrol and 1.6 diesel only.

    Ideally was looking for a jetta, or similar sized VW.

    Would like one of those rear vision screens for reversing too, it's hard to know which tech pack includes that.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Skoda Octavia and Audi A3 saloon would be similarly sized and familiar.

    The current Jetta being sold is quite an old design, being a development of the 2005 model. Not that newer is always better, but it’s not as modern as the Skoda or Audi in terms of electronics etc.

    The ID line is supposed to come out next year. Europe will have ID Neo which will be a similar size to the Golf but it's interior will be the same size as a Passat.

    I would guess VW will start to reduce the amount of models they will have as the ID range increases.

    Jetta is gone for now. If you contact a dealer you might be lucky and get one thats still in stock in the country. maybe... but i would Look at getting a Highline golf with the innovation pack. Great resale value, and i find the drive better than the jetta. Also, Have a look at finance with VW Bank as they do deposit contributions. If you do low mileage and would like to change every 2/3 years you could look at PCP for a low APR but make sure you understand it 100% before getting it. Have fun car hunting ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

    Ms

    If you want to buy a saloon the same size as the Jetta there is still some choice out there. Have a look at the Renault Megane saloon, Mazda 3 Saloon, Hyundai i30 fastback, Toyota Corolla, Fiat Tipo saloon and the Honda Civic saloon that a poster mentioned above.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

    The I40 wouldn't a whole lot bigger than a Jetta I'd say. Wonder will they keep making that too, gone long in the tooth now.

    Is the Focus saloon going to be made in the new version? Always seemed to be very popular.

    The i40 is actually big enough. It’s pretty much the same as a B6 Passat size wise, and you know there’s a good difference between a Jetta and the old Passat.

    Not so much lately. In Ireland which would always be good saloon country, but not anymore

    % of Focus sold new which were saloons
    2017 = 15%
    2016 = 20%
    2015 = 19%
    2014 = 24%
    2013 = 23%

    Ford are stopping selling cars that aren’t SUVs in the USA altogether, apart from the new Focus based SUV and the Mustang.

    There is definitely a new Focus saloon, whether we get it is another thing though:

    Most small saloon models derived from hatchbacks sold in Europe usually have an afterthought design about them. They have a following in countries like Ireland though.
