TV and automatic switch to satellite.

Hi all, hope this the right forum for my question.

I used to have a sky box, which was connected to the tv by a SCART cable.

If the TV was on (showing Irish channels) and I then switched on the sky box, the tv would automatically switch to satellite, and would also automatically switch back when I turned it off. It was a minor but convenient function.

The skybox died, and I bought and installed a freesat box. It is connected by HDMI cable (although it did come with a SCART adaptor).

Now, the very minor inconvenience is that if the tv is on, showing Irish channels, and I switch on the freesat box, it doesn't switch over automatically. Instead, I need to go through the TV menu to switch to the satellite channels. It's only a few pushes of a button, but I am wondering if there is any trick/shortcut I am missing that will make it the same automatic process as the sky box used to be?

    Thanks.

Look for a setting called "HDMI CEC" or similar on both the TV and sat box and make sure they are on. Some TVs use fancy names like Smart link / sync or whatever.

Thanks for that, I don't think that the freesat box has that function unfortunately. I couldn't find it anyway.

I switched to the SCART cable to see if it made a difference, but it didn't.

Ah well. Some exercise for my thumb.

What freesat box is it? Some allow you to pair them to the tv so you can control volume, power on/off the tv and change the hdmi input.

    Manhattan SX.

Couldn't find anything on either the TV or box menu (though the TV worked previously with the old sky box and SCART cable).

Is it possible in the TV menu to allocate priority to a HDMI input?

I don't have that brand. Check the manual or online to see if the box's remote can be paired to the tv. The new saorview connect remote allows you to control the tv power, volume and hdmi input.
