    Hi,

How does accident claim on Rental Car (fully comprehensive insured with rental car company & they are handling all aspects of this claim), affects renewing own car insurance with existing 5+ years No Claims Bonus discount?

Please advise. Also, can own car insurance company increase the renewal price due to this?

    thanks in advance!

Your NCB is unaffected, but you must declare the accident to your own and potential insurers. If you were responsible for the accident, it may increase your premium

thanks for replying, what if its not clear yet who was responsible for the accident? can it still increase own insurance premium?

Yes, it can. The circumstances of the accident could result in your own insurers considering you to be a higher risk. Other insurers may decide not to offer you quotations. If liability for the accident goes in your favour, you should be OK

Yes. You were involved in an RTC so your risk increases. If the claim is still open you may not be able to leave your current insurer.

The fun bit of insurance statistics is that if you have been involved in 3 RTCs where you were not at fault you are more likely to be involved in another RTC, the not fun bit is that it causes your premium to increase.

Just to share for future audience - my friend's personal car insurance rose by ~150% (with the new insurer at renewal), primarily because his accident case is still pending (even if he's not at fault as outcome).
