Natural gas name?

    Why is mains gas called natural gas but oil is not called natural oil? Are they not both fossil fuels?

    It has more to do how the product is delivered.

    Oil is not natural, it comes from crude

    Here's a better one why is butane called gas.

    Everything is a gas if you heat it enough.

    Its to differentiate it from town gas which was manufactured using coal or oil before we hit the jackpot in Kinsale

    Here's a better one why is butane called gas.

    Everything is a gas if you heat it enough.

    Why are vacuum cleaners called Hoovers or 4x4s Jeeps? Common usage usually uses the wrong words for stuff, I doubt the people in the industry call everything gas.

    AFAIK Hoovers are known for the company that first manufactured/invented them.
    'Jeep' originally was a short form of 'general purpose vehicle' developed by the US army in the WW2 era.
