    Hi

We got bernese mountain dog a few weeks ago and would like to start enrolling him in some puppy training classes but are struggling to find a place that does it.

I called PositiveTrainingDublin a few times this week but there was no answer.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I live in north kildare and work in Sandyford but I don't mind travelling a little.

I would also love to get the dog into some social play time classes or something like that. PTD have a puppy hour - https://www.positivedogtrainingdublin.com/socialhour.php

Anyone have a suggestion for that?

I attached images of the monster :pac:

PDT are great - I've done some classes and workshops with them. You can just show up for the puppy hour and you can register for the puppy classes then too. I found the puppy hour great when I went along with my friend. :)

If you work in Sandyford you could call into the shop and have a chat with them - don't bring your credit card though or you'll buy everything :p

    What a big beauty :-)

I agree that PDT and the free puppy play dates are great... helps with socialisation and confidence.

Tne Dog Treanor does them in Kill- you can enroll the pup in a puppy class, once that is over there are puppy and dog socializing playdates for the "graduates" every Saturday.

No help regarding the puppy classes, but a footnote re the last picture:

    https://www.travall.co.uk/dog-guard/

these are very good quality and actually work not only as a barrier but also as a proper bit of safety kit. That fella is going to be big...and you really do not want a potential 60 kg dog flying forward if you ever have a crash...he'll kill you.

The size of those feet in the last photo; when he grows into then, what a size.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will call into PositiveDogTraining this Saturday for social hour and see how it goes.

I think we need the dog guard for safety because he's already heavy enough. I attached a photo of him climbing ontop of the camping equipment. We're trying to get him exposed to lots of different activities and experiences. So the puppy hour and dog training would be a huge one for him and us.

I wouldn't buy an OEM/Travall one new if you can get away with it as you'll lose out when you change cars (you never know when you might).. check adverts etc and you might get one used for a fraction of the cost (I sold one for 100 that cost me closer to 300 when I changed cars and never again!) or look into a universal one thats crash tested so you can keep it if you change cars...which will more than likely be so you accommodate the dog lol!

Often a guard will fit a load of models too - eg I had a Hyundai suv and the same OEM guard fitted other Hyundai models..so look up the guard for your car and see what else it fits and then search for them on adverts etc too..

Not sure when the next date is, but in Naas the County Council has had a few Dog Park events in Monread - good for socialization... check out their website for future dates.
Another vote for The Dog Treanor in Kill, and they travel/home visit/have special classes around the county too.

He is just fabulous. Eating water!I remember it well! You are going to have such an amazing life with him. Best thing I did for training my dog was bringing it to the Kennel Club socialisation, then training then after 1 year agility classes. Unlike many others its only I think e6 a night, pay as you go, and the people who run it are fabulous. They have lots of different size and types of dogs including big monster pupoy classes - so you dog can learn not always to be the biggest and get his way!! They are really patient and build you from stage to stage - they were so friendly and helpful. Its at the airport roundabout (so the opposite direction from where you want to be) but for only one nights class and socialisation a week it would be SO absolutely worth the detour. You get a cup of tea and a biscuit while you are there too for your e6 class - and you can trade mortifying stories with a range of others too after the class while you gather yourself!!

The other odd thing I found was a few books on training - how to - and ironically the one that stuck in my head was thise awful canary yellow 'for dummies' books - yes!they have a teach yourself dog training but it was really good - for the e15 or so I really did puck.up.some great and easy techniques and the nice part was that everyone could refer to it and we knew we were all doing the same yhing and using the same techniques and commands which in a busy hoke can be really important for the dog too!

He looks like an absolute personality! I am so jealous and maybe in love! Best of luck with him.

    P.S
The lovely owners of Mutleys Pet shop and grooming parlour in main St Portmarnock at one stage had 6 or 8 Bernese Mountain dogs as pets!! I'm sure they love to meet your monster and do dog chat for that particular breeds needs if you happen to be in the area!

The dog runs in Naas are finished. Pop up dog park, or what ever you call it. I went to all of them, good for socializing.
