    Currently C/O in Cs.

Just looking at eligibility criteria for EO and possible future roles -
they outline that there is a requirement for Leaving Cert Maths,,, I fulfill all criteria except I got an E in Ordinary Level LC Maths- really struggled at it but flew the tests for CS.. I do have a Certificate in Project Management and another qualification Level 5- does anyone know if not having the LC Maths will restrict me from progressing within CS or will they take other qualifications into account for future internal roles?

Say nothing amd go for it. Im in the cs myself HEO.

I know one person who didnt declare convictions and it was then found on the vetting. Nothing happened to him. I would think the fact you are already in the CS qualifies you anyway.

Your best bet is to contact pas and ask for clarification if your qualifications trump the need for LC maths.

Just don't want to be stuck at CO level forever now so kind of panicking over it at the thoughts of that,,, plus the fact that there will probably be a lot of competition for other roles from maybe better qualified people, might call them and ask anon

I was co for 12 years. Got two promotions in 12 months. Dont panic, keep the head down and you'll get there.

You will 100% qualify for internal competitions anyway. But i can almost say for certain that the fact you are in the cs qualifies you for this.

There are promotions in civil service. are there not?

Just watch what the minimum requirements are for each promotion. I know that many years ago I went for EO, passed the tests & the interview & was then rejected as I didn’t have the required degree. PAS only check requirements such as qualifications & sick leave if you are successful.

Being a serving CS only qualifies you for certain internal/interdepartmental competitions. If you go for external comps as I have always done, then you’re subject to the same criteria as anyone else.

If it’s any consolation, I started 23 years ago as a CA (now defunct grade) & have worked my way through every level to AP without going to college - none of the promotions were on seniority. If you want it badly enough, you can do it!

Thanks- so could it be possible that I could apply for EO internally and not get it because of the Leaving Cert Maths,, or does that only apply if I'm going for outside competitions, sorry just want to be clear!

Like I already said- watch what the minimum requirements are for each promotion. some competitions require degree etc. I’ve never seen a comp beyond entry level CO that looked for leaving cert results.

Internal promotions for the Admin grade (co,eo,heo,ap,po) generally in my experience dont have minimum requirements due to unions.

There should be a circular floating around somewhere for the internal competition. I think as long as you have your 2 years, the qualifications shouldn't matter.

But it will say in the circular.

I was under the impression that If you’ve done further education after the leaving - such as your level 5 (which is leaving very equivalent) that surpasses the leaving and you only need put down that result?

There is no mention of education requirements in the interdepartmental circular

Yeah that's what I thought. So the OP will be grand if they have their 2 years and makes sure they indicate they are going for the internal stream.

The two year rule is silly in this day and age. Last person to be on a two year probation in the civil service which used to be the norm is well and truly institutionalized by now it was that long ago!

It just gives a rung up for mostly long term civil servants as it stops many new entrants entering the internal stream.

They should also apply the tests and necessary qualifications to everyone ;)

Most of your posts are in threads about promotions in the CS.

    Hopefully you get promoted soon.

Do you not have to list out your qualifications in the actual application form though?

Yes you do, but I was just pointing out that the interdepartmental didn't state minimum educational requirements so the OPs lack of higher level maths shouldn't be a hindrance to their applying
