Query - fixing 3rd party car

    Hi Folks,

Looking for same advice regarding a very minor tip I had with a company vehicle during the week, if possible!

I Rear-ended a company vehicle coming off of a handbrake start and left them with a small scratch to the rear-bumper. This was Accepted by driver, Details swapped, Garda Station report, Shook Hands etc, All Ok.

I received a call for the Business owner stating that the vehicle required 'Full Repairs, full parts etc and would be to the sum of €1300. Well to say I was well and truly taken aback was an under statement, as i thought this was a paint/scratch repair.

I was advised that this car would be fixed at their own independent garage and having a googled them i'm not convinced of their credentials, status etc.

I have stated that I am fully willing to repair the vehicle and will settle outside of insurance if possible. Do I have a leg to stand on regarding wishing to have it assessed elsewhere, like a recognised garage for said vehicle brand?

As its all a bit new to me, just dont want to be taken for a mug etc.

    Thanks a million

You really don't have much of a leg to stand on I don't think. They are entitled to have the damage fixed at their own garage. Getting an itemised bill would be advisable of course.

If you think they are pulling a fast one then just let this go through your insurance. You should have notified them at this point regardless.

    1300 isn't a lot if it's a newish car.
    I'd go with it.
You damaged their property. It's up to them to have it fixed to their satisfaction so you can't tell them to take it down to your friend who does nixers for example.
I guess you could ask that they get a quote from a main dealer for that car but that is only going to push quote skywards.
If I had a new car and someone damaged the bumper, I'd be looking for a new bumper.
