First time there last week for a 4 day short holiday with wife and 3 children, 12-14-16.
Pleasantly surprised with trip, like many I knew of IOM but never there or thought of it bar thinking its a motorcycle spot.
Its a smaller Island but 3 times the size of Jersey CI. a few observations..its quite old world and the pace of life is very laid back, crime is bordering on zero which is a huge plus . I would imagine its glory days were the 50s and 60s before all the package holidays but its still attracting a walking, nature etc tourist from the UK. Finance workers also are plentiful from the UK.
Stayed in Ramsey at northern end of Island which is very quite town but very peaceful. If you are there theres a beautiful Moornagh Park which has a man made lake with paddle boats and some very well kept gardens.
Laxey near by is where some of the various rail systems pass through , the Mountain electric train to the top of Snaefell mountain leaves from here and is a excellent trip with a lovely tea rooms at the summit to have a tea as you look over to Mourne mountains and Scotland.
The Capital Douglas has a 2 mile long promenade with many old hotels and guesthouses but many of these are changed to private apartments at this stage. There is a beautiful Butlins type park in Onchen on the northside of Douglas which is a must for kids with some nostalgic type activities.
We visited 2 lovely beachs , obe at Port Erin on the South of the Island and Peel on the West , Peel in particular has it all, a lovely castle , a hill to walk to the top of and a sandy beach. Food etc all similar prices to Ireland. nightlife is very quite generally but that didn't bother us .
Bottom line, if your looking for a peaceful few days away from the stresses of modern life with a touch of going back in time Isle of Man is your man.
