Is there any plans for 7 seater EV's from any of the manufacturers ?

I imagine the way things are going they will predominantly 7 seat X-overs or SUV types

Tesla X can be configured for 7 seats.

    That's a van ( or bus ) not a 7 seat car or SUV

Second hand model S can also be configured as a 7 seater. From around the £28k mark second hand plus a couple of grand in VRT

are there potentially big bills looming in a 2014 model S ?

There is the issue that I'd have to sell my own car to travel.

Depending on children age you could look at multimac....I have eGolf with 1260 Multimac which gives space for 2 adults and 4 children

At the moment that is it....

If a decent 7 seater was available I would buy......

Is there any issues with insurance in using one of these? Do you have to notify them? They’re very interesting yokes, wouldn’t mind one myself

You need to notify them. One insurance company(Blue) said they would not cover them

Every other would cover at no additional cost. You need to have installed with a certified installation company and send the receipt to them.

Apart from that it was no extra on my eGolf

I talked to 2 other mates who got them as well and they had no issues with insurance.

Nobody knows. But the motor, drivetrain and battery (the really expensive stuff) are all under warranty for another 4 years

Lots of issues with the Model S, but Tesla are good at not just repairing under warranty but also fixing them with improved parts

The bad thing is that Model S is the least depreciating car in the UK. So good value new, not so good value second hand. And that is really the only reason I don't own one.

I think insurance on a Model S can be pricey, have heard 2k a year.

Have a look at youtube....some video's available which will explain what repairs have been done by Tesla, all under warranty of course

Apart from that I cannot comment

Apologies, I’m on the phone so messy to clean post but here’s the 7 seater, not a van

Is it not the X that can be configured to 7 seats? I can't see how a 4 door saloon can be a 7 seater.

Two rear-facing fold-down seats in the boot.

I'd say that's really economical too. You'd be too embarrassed to be seen in it so it would cut down on your mileage a lot.

This. The boot is huge and there is also a front boot ("frunk") so it's an ideal configuration if you only occasionally need to transport more than 5 people. Say bring granny on a day out or something or kids to school / sport locally.

Not really suitable for a family of 7 though. But then again how many families that have bought 7-seaters were actually families of 7+? I'd say no more than 5% :p

The new nv200 can also be got with the 40kwh battery but ,and this is a big but, its got a cooling system so shouldn't be effected by rapid gate.
Only problem is trying to source one.

    \raises hand

Bringing the kids cousins/friends along, collecting grandparents, etc.

An S-Max with about 100km range would suit 99.9% of our driving!!! I’d love to go for a 7-seater Model S, but those 2k insurance stories put me off, plus even a bargain basement second-hand S is still a bit too pricey for us.

There are quite a few mitsubishi outlander 7 seater hybrids out there if you can't go full electric

The PHEV is not 7 seater, the battery takes up the space used for the 7 seats in the diesel version

Ford have been talking for a few years about a hybrid SMAX, it was supposed to launch this year in US but last time I checked no sign of it....

Only available in 5 seats. The battery takes the place of the additional 2

I'd say in a lot of cases that was company cars. Ring your insurer to find out. Obviously a must before you buy any car!

As for too pricey. Yeah. The Model S keeps its value for too well :(

Did a quick online quote there, turns out you’re right unkel! 625e for a basic 2014 60kwh S, that’s not too painful!

No, you can't put 6 people in it. 5-seater can still transport only five people, regardless how many Multimacs you put inside...

    Not according to my insurance

Also, my 2 friends, have them installed, they have insurance no problem

Plus my friend in Nissan recommends them to lots of people.....

The person I bought it from had it installed for a few years with no issue

What do Type approval and your log-book say? You would have to have the car approved to carry 6 passengers, probably with Individual Vehicle Approval scheme.
Right now you can transport 4 kids and an adult - but 2 adults and 4 kids is a no-go.

You don't have insurance issues because they are not illegal and are not modifications. They are simply constraining devices. But you cannot put one and expect for the capacity of your car to be magically increased, the same way you cannot just install additional seats in the boot.

The company, Blue, which turned it down because it is classified as a modification.

I think Ford wont even replace the current S-Max, everyone wants an SUV now, the 7 seat Edge replacement is more likely the electric candidate ( if ford ever get round to it )

This was supposed to be the 2018 SMAX but got pushed back till 2019

Yes I know everyone wants a SUV.....apart from all the people who drive Galaxy and SMAX's :p

It wil be a pity if they get rid of them.....

mid size SUV's tend to make poor 7 seaters. probably due to the larger wheel arches..

If Tesla were to produce a Model S estate variant, with the two seats in the boot option that might work out. Someone in UK converted their Model S into an estate (sportback I think they call it), it was on FullyCharged @ YouTube

If only your research was a bit more thorough...

Adults clearly won't fit - but they are ideal for kids. And you get benefits of ERF for free...

he did say a variant!!!! so they could fit.

If only people wouldn't take other people on internet so seriously. :p

Anyway, here's the conversion, it's clearly not a 7 seater, and still the +2 would only suit kids. And of course it makes zero sense considering the cost of conversion etc. But if Tesla wanted to produce the estate version... may be... but they don't need to, they can't make enough as is.
