    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has a mazda 3 hatchback or saloon.  Regarding the spare tyre I've heard there is none (amazingly).  But is there a built in space in the boot for one if you buy it yourself or is the boot just flat?
    cheers!

I think thats only US models.  In Ireland and UK they dont provide a spare tyre, just one of those crappy kits.
I'd buy a spare but if theres no place to store it I wouldnt bother. Crazy that most car manufacturers get away with no spare tyres these days.

Driver at work with me has a Mazda5. Had to call recovery 3 times over the past 2 years as the aerosol provided to fix the puncture didn't work. Some pain.

Not supplying a spare wheels saves the manufacturer both money and increases space plus also can reduce the car's emissions rating (saves weight)

There is usually a space under the floor that can hold a spare or at least a space saver.
It might be hidden under another *Storage* cubby but if you pull all that junk out the spare wheel well is visible.
Honda Accords are the same, no spare just a stupid can of snot and a compressor.
I pulled the bucket shaped carpet out and fitted a steel wheel, it meant that I couldn't fit it to the front wheel but you just change the back for the steelie and the back wheel, goes to the front due to disc size clearances.
Spare Wheel>Space saver>can of snot, Ireland is no place to have no spare wheel IMO.

I had a 2014 one as a company car. Had to buy a space saver and a kit that raises the level of the boot floor leaving a space for the wheel. Think it cost about €300 from Mazda.

Wonder how much the CO2 rating would increase by if you factory specified the spare wheel kit?

The spare wheel kit is an accessory, not a factory fitted item.
That way the CO2 figures are lowered....;)

I got a 2017 saloon in June. It came with a repair kit. It has a well for a space saver tyre (€200 to get from a mazda garage!). I doubt you would fit a full sized spare without having an impractical bulge in your boot.

If it comes with a well I'd be happy enough.  I'd get the space saver.  I just see kits on the net where you have to install the well with a temporary plastic kit. Such a stupid thing to omit.  Should be standard without doubt.
    cheers all for replying.
