Looking at buying an 07 Clio. Had a price agreed but when I checked the spare wheel it was just lying in the boot. Some contraption in the boot for securing the wheel was not working.. and they went off to meet their mechanic and rang an hour later to say he couldn't fix it.

My question is if I was to buy this thing and a space saver wheel will the contraption work or is it pure useless? And if I manage to buy one are they easily fitted?

You can get a new mechanism for around €80 plus fitting. Is there evidence of a rear impact or anything? It wouldn’t be unusual for it just to be broken though.

This is the holder in question. How in gods name is that fitted?
And Colm what would your opinion be on the Clio?

Met a man in local car park today and his holder was also broken so must be a common fault

It’s just bolted on from inside the boot. Really simple.
