Mk2 Focus fault

    Hi All,

My wife has a 2006 mk2 focus, 1.4 petrol. While driving today it through up the below fault on the dash, "engine systems fault - acceleration reduced".
The engine management came on, but after turning off/ on the car, it has disappeared now and hasn't come back, although the "engine systems fault - acceleration reduced" fault has.
Also, while driving it, other lights on the dash would flash for a second and go off and the needles would drop before recovering to their original position.
This happened once or twice. To me, the car still seem to be driving the same. It has awful acceleration anyway, but its hard to notice if it is actually in a limp mode of sorts.

From reading online, it seems in instrument cluster gives issues on these cars. I'm wondering would this be the issue here? Is there any test of it to diagnose a failing cluster?

    Thanks in advance!!

Had the same issue with mine a couple of years ago, turned out it was the alternator that was causing the issue.

Thanks for that, I'll look into it!! Was it just not putting out enough voltage to keep the battery charged? I'll get a muliltimeter and check voltages at the battery with engine on/off and under load and see what it's putting out!

AFAIR it was outputting a higher voltage than it should of, so it was blowing bulbs, the dash was lighting up like a Christmas tree and generally even more underpowered than it should of been.

Let me know how you get on.
