    Hi,

Have tooth abscess and have been referred to a root canal specialist which will take a few weeks. In the meantime my jaw is still swelling and have darts of pain. First course of antibiotics was a 5 day course of amoxicillin. Then a 5 day course of augmentin (500mg/125mg) and then weekend doc prescribed a further 7 days of the augmentin. However swelling is not going down. Anyone else have this problem and how long did it take for the infection to clear?

    Thanks
    Kathryn

With the correct type and dose of antibiotics, you should expect the swelling to stop increasing and beginning to reduce at the 48hour mark.

See your dentist again if the swelling is still increasing beyond this 48 hour mark.....
