    Hi All

When moving into a new house in a new estate, is there a fee associated with having the gas and electricity activated?
The contractor should already have everything connected, but I'm being told it takes a few weeks to get it turned on, what actually needs to be done?

    Hi Silane,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

The work of connecting the property would be completed by ESB Networks and Gas Networks Ireland, for electricity and gas respectively.

We recommend contacting them directly, as they will be in the best position to advise regarding fees, or additional information required to connect the property. ESB Networks contact details can be found online here, and Gas Networks Ireland's contact information is available here.

Please note, to connect a new property, customers must first select and register with the supplier of their choice. If you wish to register with Electric Ireland, this can be completed over the phone with a member of the dedicated Electric Ireland Sales team on 1850 305 090. They are available to call from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5:30pm on Saturday.

They will require both the Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) and Gas Point Reference Number (GPRN), to begin this process. A request will then be sent to ESB Networks and Gas Networks Ireland to connect the premises.

ESB Networks will require a certificate from your registered electrician advising regarding the wiring of the premises. Once this has been received they will contact you directly to arrange the connection.

Gas Networks Ireland will also require a certificate from your registered gas installer. However, this must be kept at the property and provided to the technician who completes the work at the property.

We hope this helps. Should you have any other questions, please let us know.

    Thanks,
    Brige
