Honestly, what should I charge for my car?

So we've recently bought a new car, and I'm stuck with my old one. It's a 2004 Silver Toyota Corolla, with about 120k miles on it, and also with a radio with full iPhone+bluetooth connectivity. Also NCTed until Dec 31, 2018, taxed until April, 2019.

However, back in June we had some trouble, where it broke down on the motorway. I'm not a car person, so I'll try and explain the issues that it had (what I can remember from the mechanic). Also, I don't really want to rip anyone off that might buy it, as I genuinely want to be as honest as possible to any buyer.

It turns out that whatever keeps the engine cool stopped working. A thermos? I'm sure he mentioned something about a gasket as well? "Something something head gasket something something" He mentioned that replacing this would probably cost more than the car itself, so now he has set it so that this thing is now running constantly. (I know this is a bit cryptic, but this was about 2 months ago, and most of what he said went over my head, so hopefully this might make sense to someone). Anyways...he said the car is fine to drive on short journeys, but you wouldn't want to take it on longer journeys on motorways, and especially not in hot weather.

Any ideas on what I might get (if anything) for this car? I genuinely have no idea what I should look for. Like I said, I really don't want to mess any buyers around, and I do want to be as honest as possible.

    Thanks for any help.

Sounds like it overheated and damaged the head gasket, now he's taken the thermostat out completely, which isn't a good "repair" really.

Anyway, 04 Corolla with the head gasket shot, worth scrap value really. You could claim back the value of the road tax if you scrap it too, so between the tax refund and scrap value you might see €250-€300.

Before I'd do that though I'd advertise it for a week or two on donedeal with an honest advert for €500 or so as someone may be interested in buying it or fixing it as in working condition it could still be worth €12-€1500 as it has a good bit of tax and NCT remaining.

Nothing of use to add, but Kudos for being honest whatever you end up doing. Every car I've sold I've ended up pointing out faults/scratches/history. Not sure if Karma has rewarded me but couldn't stomach it any other way. Good on ya.
