2011 Golf Plus DSG gearbox repair or replacement?

I have a 2011 Golf Plus 1.6 TDI with a DSG gearbox. A few nights ago it stopped selecting all the gears. Got it towed to VW dealership who said that the selector shaft has physically broken up and damaged the gearbox, and they want €5.2k to replace it.

Unfortunately it was first registered in May 2011 so it's beyond the 7 years aftercare that VW provide. Can anyone recommend a good shop in south dublin somewhere ideally to replace/repair this for a cheaper price? The whole car is worth only €10k maybe and we've already spent almost €3.5k on repairs the last 4 years.

They can be fixed. We’ve done a few.

I can't comment on the specifics but the VW garage is probably the worst place to start as regards cost and value. I'd imagine it could be done for significantly less at a VW specialist- first thing I'd do is shop around.
