Widening divan base.

    Hi guys,

So I have a queen divan bed base, well its actually two smaller units put together. What I want to do is just put a six inch wide board to one side of it so it can hold a double mattress. What I was thinking was shelf brackets perhaps? Obviously they would have to take a bit of weight but at the same time it would only be six inches of mattress or so.

Any ideas? Apart from the obvious one of just buying a new base :p

    Thanks.

I have just done the exact same job in order to put a standard single mattress on a mobile home narrow base. It needed anther 10 inches. I just made a narrow copy of the existing base and slotted it in beside the wall. With only 6 inches to fill I suggest you do what you propose, but put it down the middle and then you can fix both edges.

I suggest yo wrap the board in fabric to protect the mattress, before you fix it, and make sure itis exactly the same height as the existing base or you will both damage the mattress and you will be able to feel the ridge.

Pul apart beds. Screw 2" x 2" to existing base sides with 18mm wbp plywood on top level with existing base. Job done!

Well, yes, that works if you have a vehicle big enough to move a queen size base, and you would rather have someone else's 'crap' than your own.

    'crap' is it.

I guess you own nothing second hand then.

You were the one who introduced the word crap into he conversation. My house has - in the past - been furnished second hand, and I have no problem generally. However moving a queen sized bed base is not something the average joe can easily do, and I don't really see the difference between making the best of what you have, compared with getting in someone else's base then having to dispose of the two you have?
