    Hi,

I know this was asked before a few years ago but no joy.

My girlfriend and I are moving from Dublin to London at the end of September and looking to rent a van for the trip.

Haven't been able to find anything in Dublin and looked at some of the major Rental companies in Belfast also but none do this service due to it being a a one way trip.

Anyone had any experience of this?

    Thanks,

    PHG

Better option is probably shipping crate and transport company if no one wants to rent you a van for a single trip.

Even if you find one that would rent it for a single trip, you probably pay a hefty surcharge because of the single trip

It can be done but won't be cheap.

Could you rent the van for a return trip and bring a family member or friend with you who would be willing to drive the van back?

Or fly to London, rent a van there, and do a return trip to/from Ireland.

Look into shipping, possibly some man-and-van company can do it cheap.
Make sure to ask about their insurance if it's a smaller outfit.

I had to get some furniture across from England recently, and it was way cheaper to pay someone to collect and deliver than it would have been to hire a van. I put my requirements up on shiply.com, and waited for quotes.

I did the reverse 2 years ago for special items I wouldn’t trust to the movers. I picked up the van in London, dropped the stuff to Dublin then handed back the van in Belfast. Enterprise was the other one which had a drive out of the USk and drop in Belfast policy. I presume you could go the same in reverse.

    Thanks for all the replies.

    Found the answer

I nearly rented a van in Belfast to over. Cost £484 + Vat. Then add €255 for ferry and diesel.

    Found this website

    www.anyvan.ie

You put up what you want brought over, pick up date(s) and collection date (s) and invite companies to bid on it.

The quotes ranged from €333 to €1800. I have gone with one for €532 based on their reviews and ranking. They will collect on the Wednesday from Dublin and deliver on the Friday. The gf have flights booked to London for €30 each so no hassle and not bad price either.

Thanks again for the replies and hopefully the above helps someone else in a similar situation.
