I submitted a P50 fot split yr tax relief as i am overseas for the next 18mths. I had an enquiry sometime ago through revenue online (about my p45) and i received a reply there on the 2nd Aug to say that the person has processed my claim for the P50. Does anyone know when i can expect to actually hear something from revenue about if i will be getting a refund (or not) given it appears it was processed on the 2nd?

Normally if all is in order, it's 24 to 48 hours to the bank account in record. If the refund amount is quite large, it may be held for a second round of checks to see if it was processed correctly.

Thanks. If i am getting nothing, will i still hear? In the mean time i’ll cross my fingers that the reason for the delay is that its big & being double checked!

Your should receive some notification one way or the other to your online account.

I'd imagine it's a decent refund based on having 6 months or so of unused rate band and credits to throw into the mix. Just be a matter of time. No harm to drop a line via my enquiries but as it's August, a lot of staff are on holiday it could be a while for a response.

I ended up getting my refund a day or two after I posted this. No notification online, however eventually a letter from renvue turned up at my address in Australia. On it, it say 'If you are still unemployed in 8 weeks time, please complete Section A and return this form to the address as a further refund may be due to you'.

Technically I'm not unemployed as I'm working in Australia but is it worth sending the form back to see if anything else is due to me?

They ended up doing a p50 review rather than a full year review. If you are going to be out out of the country for the rest of the year and next year you are entitled to split year relief. That means your Australian income should be discounted in the review.

If you have a Revenue online account, tick receive correspondence electronically and contact them via my enquiries to advise them of your residence intentions and ask for a full year review to be carried out.

Thanks a million, I have just done that.

Interestingly in my online account it already had receive correspondence electronically so i don't know why they posted the letter.

So i emailed revenue saying that i had submitted a P50 to claim split yr tax relief as i was overseas and niot returning before Jan 2020 and asked if they would do a full year review.

    I got this reply...

P50 was processed and refund issued 08/08/18. Please review tax year 2018 online in January 2019.

Is it still worth returning the form i got in the post or should i be asking revenue something else or just wait until Jan now?

Looks like you'll have to wait until January unfortunately.

    Thanks.

Is there any way to check that they have actually applied/done the split yr tax relief?

In Jan, i presume i then just submit a P21 online? Can i do this right at the start of Jan or do i need to wait for anything from my old job?

Thanks so much for your help, its much appreciated.

You can do it at the start of January. The split year treatment is applied automatically when you request your p21 as you won't have to declare your worldwide income.

    Hi,

Just following this up - I’m presuming i’m ok to request my P21 as soon as the new yr ticks over? The HSE have gradually been paying back the pension levy since i left and i now have received that all back. I received an email from revenue saying that my tax credit certificate is available online. Will i continue to reveive these every yr, or will it stop aftr this yr? I won’t be returning back to Ireland for work.

I logged onto the revenue website this morning to request a P21 and got the following message 'We cannot process your request as you were registered for income tax during 2018'. There was also an option for a form 12 and when I pressed that I got the same message. Any ideas anyone?

You have an active income tax registration for 2018 meaning a form 11 return will have to be submitted via ROS. Did you have any non PAYE income that would require you to do so in 2018? This could be rental etc.

Thanks. I had a small business (ltd company) that was wound up through my accountant prior to moving back to Australia so that must be what it is. I have the p50 that my accountant did for that as well - will everything i need to complete the form 11 be on that?

It may be. A call to your accountant may be required but when you file your form 11 any further refund due will be processed to you.

I read that you can access a Form 11 online that may be already partially filled in? Is this through ROS - I couldn't see anything for the Form 11 when I logged into my account on the revenue website. I tried to log into ROS but I don't have the certificate- can I request that? One more question...when I was looking at a paper version of the form it has a place for overseas income - will I need to enter my income from Australia and if so, which period - just up to the end of the Aus financial year which was 30th June 2018 or will it be based on the Irish financial year?

Oh and Happy New Year...thanks so much for all the help :)

So i contacted the accountant i used for my busness stuff a few weeks ago asking about the certificate i need to access ros online and i haven’t heard back. If i ring revenue, will they be able to give me/ activate (or however it works) the certificate so i can complete & submit the form 11 online?
