Does any one know if you have to pay fees with AL Plus fare standby?

We were returning to Cork from Malaga last week, we rang AL few days before and asked about standby as our flight was at 23.00 and we wanted to return on earlier flight ( son had a foot injury, couldn't walk, in a wheelchair) apartment check out was at 11.
On phone it was no problem, 25 seats available.
Arrived at the airport to be told, no chance.. unless you 1. buy new tickets over €1000 (5 of us) or 2 Go to Iberia ticket office they might give you a change for €75 per ticket. We couldn't hang around the airport for 12 hours with 3 kids and bags.. no baggage hold in Malaga, so we paid!

Obviously am annoyed that we had to pay €375.

So are you saying you had bought plus fare? Sorry it's not clear? If you did, it's only available on certain routes and there may be fare changes. Hence your 200/each

    Thanks for the reply.
Yes we had bought 5 return plus fares, looked up online about changing to an earlier flight, plus fare includes change to earlier flight (standby), rang them, AL rep said that there was availability on flight so no problem. Went to the airport and then had to payout.
