DBS (Vetting check in the UK); Police Cert here?

    Alright folks,

Wee bit confused with this. I'd a valid DBS (like garda vetting over in the UK) cert but I'm moving jobs and I need a new one with this NHS trust.

When I originally checked done it 2 or so years ago, I'd completed a FOI request with the Gardai, which I posted off with a cheque for 6 euros or something. That was the guidance from the Home Office over here to complete the check.

The home office guidance seems to have changed, now needs a Police Certificate for some reason. A quick google seems to tell me that it's for Visa Applications and not criminal record checks.

Has anything changed recently? Has the home office over here got it wrong?

Do you need a simple criminal records check or Garda vetting?
I needed a criminal record check recently for an application for an ID to access a restricted area and I just used the garda F20 form even though it stated on the form it is not proof of no convictions they still accepted it going on previous experience with Irish resident applications .
The police certificate would be better but as you said it's not for job related purposes but I guess if you "needed" it for a relevant visa application also there would be nothing to stop you requesting it.
Really the state should have something in place in 2018 to verify your criminal record or lack there of.

It's for an Enhanced DBS check in the UK, it's a bit like the Garda Vetting here. DBS will look for something for my time in Ireland. It's for working with adults/children as a Paramedic.

And I'm fairly I used the F20 form the last time I needed a DBS check.

I might request the F20 and hope it's good enough.. It's free by the looks of it now (must be something to do with GDPR).

And yes, I dunno why you cannot just apply for a Police Cert if you live out of the country for any reason.

I got the F20 in May and it cost 6.95 but I looked at the form now and it has changed since May and does appear to be free as you said must be because of GDPR. .

Hi there just wondering how everything worked out as I anticipate being in this position in the near future.. I’ve just moved back from the UK to Ireland 6 months ago but reapplying for jobs in the NHS in England and Scotland so will need to have an enhanced DBS check. What did you do to get your clearance from Ireland ? I would now be viewed again as new emigrant technically due to the 6 month gap it states in the DBS so want to get things rolling to reduce delays. Any help with this would be useful.. thanks in advance

    Hi,

I filled out the F20 form and emailed it to the Garda data protection unit. They send you the personal data disclosure and via email and if you want it in paper format you have to reply asking for it to be posted out.

The F20 is the only available CRC to an individual in Ireland. The F20 is a paperwork excercise to allow someone tick a box its basically useless as a criminal record check if you want to deceive them as they only search your name for the addresses provided and it says on top of the the disclosure that this disclosure cannot be construed as proof of no convictions. But it allows your prospective employer tick the box that youre a good citizen

Thanks so much I’ve just sent it to my new NHS employer so hopefully it’ll still work

    Hello,

I was just wondering if the NHS accepted the F20 as the overseas clearance check from Ireland because I have been refused a police certificate as I wouldn't need it for visa purposes. And was told by the garda to get a f20 instead.
