Ok , I've seen this lad's videos before and I found him a little bit of a pain in the ass, but his video below is a much better edited and therefore watchable summation of where he's coming from and what he's at.

In fairness to him he had achieved some big wins with seriously damaged Teslas, and he deserves kudos for this alone .

However he does highlight how Tesla are trying, and somewhat winning, at removing the whole independent car fixers out of their business model, which would have huge implications for thousands of mechanics worldwide in the medium term.

Its early days and like everything else market forces will dictate this in the long term, if Tesla try and control servicing through their own expensive network buyers will vote with their feet.

Limited skill levels currently in the EV after sales market will also improve.

If you watch the video they have a stranglehold on parts supply to de-listed/blacklisted vin numbers, so it's very hard to fix anything if you can only buy secondhand parts and you then have to get Tesla to enable these parts remotely after fitting , very profound change to the auto industry , so much so I think the short sellers missed this bit.

Apple have been trying the same thing for years, to put a retail footprint out there required to remove independent servicing is a gigantican undertaking.

Rather than fight it by not making parts available there only shooting themselves in the foot as delays are upsetting customers.

They've also got the whole right to repair legislation to deal with https://www.fastcompany.com/40518779/right-to-repair-legislation-has-now-been-introduced-in-17-states

I’ve watched one of his videos where he opens the battery like a tin can with a crowbar... then breaks the plug lifting in in wrong....

It’s amusing and I’m amazed with what he has managed to get working-

But I wouldn’t hold him up as a champion for open car repairs.

I do struggle with his stuff he comes across as unlikeable.

If he was in Ireland he would be referred to as a gob****e

    Don't like the guy
Watched one or two videos because the subject is interesting (including the one where his frankentesla was able to supercharge) but can't stand him so unsubscribed.
To be honest, something you've bodged together in your garage shouldnt be able to accept 120kW of charge anyway.

Yes , I remember the first time I plugged in a leaf to a fast charger , scary amount of energy being transferred if something went bang , went on fire or exploded.

Kind of related but found this online.

Guy at shows up at a dyno day with an Audi S5, which he has converted into a full EV.
