Amazon currently have a promo on selected toys, 3 for the price of 2. Some bargains to be had if you buy items that are already reduced (lots of lego, board games etc.)

similar promo will be in Tesco, smyths, argos etc this month. The toy industry does this every year as a precursor to the Christmas season.

Yeah their T&Cs said until the 7th....

From 06:00 BST on 5th August 2018, when you add three qualifying toys to your basket, you can get the cheapest toy free at checkout (the "Offer").
This offer ends at 23:59 BST on 7th August 2018. The offer only applies to items sold directly by Amazon at the website www.amazon.co.uk.

Argos has a 3 for 2 on at the moment but almost nothing is in stock. I picked 3 items, 1 of which is available nowhere in the country. The second and third toy both have 1 unit available in a handful of stores with no overlap. I also checked their UK stores and it's the same situation. All of these toys are newish releases with plenty of them in every Smyths/Tesco and Asda that I have been in so it's not like they are in short supply. They are also better individual value in Smyths and on Amazon but still expensive enough that the 3 for 2 would have been a good deal. So either there was a massive run on these toys last week or it's the most BS version of this promotion ever.

With Argos you'll have people reserving toys a day or two before the 3 for 2 starts. My aunt does it every year around this time to get some of the Christmas presents for family.

That's true. And people reserving toys they might buy but end up deciding against. I might keep an eye on the website in case the toys reappear.
