Chemical Store

Anyone know if using a large wheelie bin as a chemical store is allowed?

If so does the wheelie bin itself need to be locked or is it enough to keep the shed it is in locked?

Ive been on the lookout for an old deep freeze for months now and haven't found anything.

When I had one of those expensive JFC stores bought a neighbour told me he was using a plastic barrel in a locked shed, all you need after that is a spray suit and goggles, bucket of peat or sand to mop up spills and a measuring jug.
I suppose if the spray containers are in a barrel leaks can't go anywhere

I seen some farmers lock them.not all them though,it depends on who is inspecting them

Depends on the chemicals. What if the chemicals leak and melt the wheelie bin?

Note that it should be secure, but well ventilated.

    Thanks, that's very helpful.

Given all chemicals used on a farm are distributed in plastic containers, I'll chance none of them melting a plastic wheelie bin.

    Thanks for your response.

In a shed that is locked is no good. It must be lockable itself. It must also be bunded. I'd say a lot depends on the inspectors interpretation of the rules.

Ours are sprays are in an old freezer here.

Well if the wheelie bin its self was not considered to be "bunded", then cutting the top off a 45 gallon plastic drum and sifting the wheelie bin into it would leave it bunded for sure.

An old fridge/freezer used here. Put a lock on it and it works ok.

Must be loacable, must be bunded with enough area to contain a spill, must be ventilated, must be made from non-pourous material.

Does'nt have to be an expensive JFC type thing but as long as it ticks those boxes it should be fine.
