Double-jointedness

I 'm 45. Since February. A couple of months ago, the two people I share an office with said to me one day "What's wrong with you? Are you alright?".

I was typing away with my right hand but was, distractedly, stretching the fingers of my left hand. The thing is, I was stretching them about 100-110 degrees, and apparently that's freaky. It's not freaky enough to join a circus or anything but people aren't mad about it in regular life.

Since then, I was in hospital and had time off work. Even though I'm fairly unfit, I realised that I can place my size 13 feet on the side of my face, and if I place my hand on my knee, I can turn it 360 degrees. I haven't said this to anybody else, and don't want to be seen as a freak. There are a few other things...

Does anybody else here have slight or very double-jointedness?

I can do this weird thing where I pop my thumb in and out of place ... doesn't hurt ... I can only do it with one hand.

You're probably just hypermobile. I am too. I can bend my fingers backwards towards my wrist quite a ways. When I was a teenager, I used to be able to bend them back until they lay against my wrist. I can also bring my thumbs forward to lay against my wrist. My thumbs are both "hitchhiker" thumbs too. And I can make the joints in all of my fingers jut out at weird angles.

It's also elsewhere in my body. I have "flexible flat foot." I have a nice arch, but my joints in my feet are so flexible (re: weak) that they collapse under the weight of my body, causing my arch to flatten when I stand or walk. I'm not supposed to do any contact sports or high impact exercise because my hypermobility means that my joints can also be dislocated or sprained more easily. But it makes for fun party tricks!

Probably. Especially if it took nearly half a century to figure out! :pac:

My index fingers bend back to parallel with the top of my palm. My thumbs go beyond perpendicular without pushing them. Great for showing off as a primary school kid. Utterly pointless as an adult. Meanwhile I'm a little lacking in functional mobility like in my hips.

Woot! Me too, same hand, uh, too.

It does kinda freak people out, though, when I demonstrate it like a possessed, fleshy metronome.
