If a landlord registers with the RTB almost two years into our tenancy as she would like to dispute a withheld deposit then does she have a leg to stand on? i.e. will the RTB listen to his case as he only registered so late in the day and was supposed to do so within a month of our tenancy starting?

Presumably the LL is looking to withhold your deposit as the tenant? You are seeking to dispute this and in order for the landlord to contest they must pay the 180 euro late registration fee? Is this correct?

They must really believe they are in the right to keep your deposit if they are willing to pay 180 to dispute.

What's the nature of the dispute?

    Aye they can register late.

Don't think it would directly affect her case, unless the mediator or adjudicator knows of it and lets it affect their judgement on your matter, but failure to register on time could get her in legal trouble of her own completely separate from your dispute.

Late registration does not get a landlord into any legal trouble. Why would a landlord dispute a withheld deposit? Surely the landlord withholds the deposit and the tenant disputes it? That happens only after the tenancy ends and it is too late for late registration.
