2004 Renault Megane electronic fault....

The missus' 04 Megane 1.4 petrol seemingly gave up the ghost last weekend, after a long trip home from Sneem and two weeks of heavy use on holidays there, the displayed indicated 'electronic fault' with all the lights coming on, the wipers going (didnt stop even with the keycard out!), hazard lights on and the fan going very loudly.
The electrics seemed on the blink for a while, somethings when going down a steep incline it would beep and flash on the dashboard. I know these cars have well-known issues with the electrics, just wondering is it even worth the hassle now to get it investigated and/or repaired (if even possible)? We tried disconnecting the battery but it made no difference, same issue once reconnected.
    Thoughts/opinions welcome.

    Thanks.

It wants to die. Might be an idea to grant it it's final wish?

Let it go man. It has seen too much.

If it's all the auxiliary stuff going crazy, maybe it's the Renault equivalent of the BSI (might be Peugeot/Citroen terminology)? Or just a bad earth somewhere? Unless it's a well-known issue that can be fixed at reasonable cost, it's probably not worth investigating...

Check the under bonnet fusebox for water ingress ;)

It's back alive! Not sure why because we did nothing other than disconnect the battery. I'll check that tomorrow, thanks.

It's resurrection in this fashion also points to the UBF. There are YouTube videos to show how to locate, dismantle and attempt repairs on these things.

Ok, so garage was told us the water pump is gone.
There was a new timing belt couple of years back, not sure if the pump was done then until I check receipts.
Pump seems a cheap enough part, but can anyone say how much it would cost to fit?
And what is UBF? Havent a clue sorry.

My experience with renault electrical faults are that they mysteriously go away on their own accord, disconnecting the battery tends to fix or its a dodgy earth connection.

Is that a mk2 megane? I've had one and had similar issues, it was a bad solder joint inside the ECU that's under the dashboard. Also, it had corrosion in the vented(!) ECU under the bonnet, causing intermittent failures with headlights and power steering. Also, both frond window regulators fked by corrosion due to water ingress.
    Sell it.

Yes it is mk 2. I don't doubt for a second there's corrosion, the thing seems full of water.
Any idea of the cost of fitting the pump? Garage said it's a finicky job. My idea is to buy the pump and sell it, flagging up the issue and that it needs to be fitted.

Your water pump is a separate issue to your electrical / electronic issue. That's a shame to have two faults on the go.

UFB is underbonnet fuse box. I mistyped it as UBF - apologies for any confusion I caused.

It's located immediately beside the battery. It's prone to getting water into it which causes a multitude of faults. If it dries out by itself it can start working again. But if it keeps getting wet then failure is inevitable.

No worries at all, thanks for the info.
