We'll need to know more really.

What laptop is it specifically? HP make hundreds of different types, a model number is required. If you click on the start button and type:

    msinfo32

This should give some details, presuming you have Windows 8 or 10. And how old is this machine?

Computer slowness can be caused by lots of things. Poor setup and having too many applications open would be one cause. Clearing programs that start when you turn on the computer is one step in improving things:

Right click on the task bar (the bar on the bottom of the screen where you applications appear) and select 'Task Manager'.
There is a tab in this window called 'Startup', click on this and disable most things in here. Really you can disable them all, but there maybe some items which you might want to keep. If in doubt I would disable them all and reboot. If anything doesn't work then you can start to enable things again.

The following link shows more details:

If you laptop is exceptionally old it could just be a case obsolescence. But I would try the above for a start.
