DAB Radio- Coverage throughout Ireland?

My understanding is that 56% of population can get DAB radio in Ireland- but that simply means it's confined to the large population areas of Dublin Cork and Limerick apparently from what i've read online.

So, if using DAB or DAB+ can you please let us know what county and how good is the signal?

Or if someone has the inside track on DAB signals in Ireland, would appreciate your views.

I've reverted to bluetooth and radio apps but since I have a few radios with DAB capability, I'd like to use them where I can.

None at all in Galway. My car radio has DAB and the only time I’ve seen it work was when I was up around Dublin.

I use it in the greater Dublin area, and part of west Wicklow it seems to have a stronger signal too.

What is currently available on DAB are the same stations that are accessible on Saorview - all RTÉ stations. Commercial stations were available on a trial some years ago but clearly they do not see any benefit to DAB broadcasting at present. I can access DAB radio but would regard FM as better at the moment - static reception where you get it with DAB is fine but you can lose the signal if you are mobile. Your FM signal is much more durable. If you are close to the border with the North you might get reception of BBC and commercial stations from there.

There's a small scale Dab+ trial due to start this week, not sure what content is confirmed (if any) http://www.eirdab.com

For at least three weeks now broadcasting from 3 Rock transmitter in Dublin is 2 minimux on 5a and 5b. You have to be close to the transmitter to get a good signal, it works ok in Glencullen.

Are those the same ones that have been broadcasting from Donnybrook for the past year?

Slightly off topic but I got a new car last month. While I was shopping around, I noted that very few new cars have DAB. It's all about Android Auto and Apple Car Play now.

Very hard to see DAB taking off.

That should be Donnybrook, unless they moved them.

In the UK 92.4% of new cars now have DAB as standard, so it's surprising that those cars haven't made into the Irish retailers.

I follow éirdab on twitter and there was a post yesterday saying that the Cork multiplex is being installed this week. Looks like several stations will be on there from the start.

Does anyone know if the multiplex has been switched on yet? I’m outside the area so can’t listen.

Apparently its on. If you're in Cork please have a listen and tell us which stations are on there.

Anyone else heard about 2 new stations joining the Cork DAB adding to Radio Maria and UCB? One will be playing Adult Alternative music and the other a mix of underground electronic/house. At last…some real choice and diversity on Irish radio! Cant wait.
