health insurance cover for sleep test

I have had issues with insomnia for 12 years, developed suddenly one night. I've been to various doctors over the years but found no real solution. 10 years ago I did a sleep test in Asia which showed I have no problem falling asleep but cannot get into a deep sleep. I tested negative for sleep apnea. I meditate a lot and that helps me deal with it.

For the last couple of years I have issues with sleep 8 months of the year and the 4 winter months I sleep like a log.

I would like to get a sleep test done but my insurance company is saying that they will not cover any pre-existing condition. I started with my health insurance company in January. So i'd need to pay the 7 or 8k myself. I'm thinking of arguing that I never had sleep apnea previously (which I now believe I have), I had insomnia caused by depression/anxiety (which is true). It's only in recent months that I have developed it - which I believe to be the case as its only this summer that I remember waking up struggling to breath. Is this argument likely to work?

Alternatively, can anybody recommend a sleep clinic overseas I could attend? I would like to try a CPAP machine but in Ireland they willl only fit me with one if I've had a sleep test. So it's like im trapped into paying a fortune for the test in order to get access to a CPAP. Im willing to travel anywhere in Europe to do the test. I previously travelled to Asia for it, and that worked oout far cheaper than having it here.

    Thanks

    EDIT
Actually I just got a much cheaper quote for a sleep test of 1200 euro. This is much better. I'd like to be covered but I'll pay this if not.

Hi. Which part the country are you in? I know a polysomnography (PSG) can be performed in your own home by a CPAP company, following a consultation with a respiratory physician. You just pay the private consultation and the PSG is free.
