CI+ Module or Smart Card Not Found

Apologies if I'm a bit confused on the details here. I don't understand how any of this works.
Have just bought a new Samsung UE40MU6400 TV from Richer Sounds in Belfast to replace an old Analogue one I had.

It's connected via the wall in our block of flats to some kind of communal connection. Previously we got about 10 analogue channels through it, RTE, BBC etc. Apparently though the analogue signal was switched off in the area just before I got the new TV.

Anyway, I connected the new TV, it scans and finds about 200 channels, BBC1, Boomerang, 3E, RTE2 etc. Great. They all show up in the programme guide.

However, for all the channels besides the radio stations, no signal is shown. Instead I get a message "CI+ Module or Smart Card Not Found Please check it has been inserted correctly"

I plugged in the CI+ module that came with the TV , but there's no card included for the slot. Do I need to get some kind of Smart card in order to watch TV? Nobody I spoke to at Samsung or Richer Sounds had any idea of what I should do.

By the sounds of it, the cable going into the TV is coming from Virgin Media and those channels are on their Digital service but only available with a Digital box

Since the Analogue service has been shut down in your area which is being done on a phased basis in Dublin at the moment, the only option is to a get a Saorview Aerial and tune in Saorview which is about 10 channels or if possible a Satellite dish as your TV has a satellite input and have both Irish and UK channels

Is there anything I can do to be able to watch any of the channels that come through? Even ones which should be on saorview don't come through. The building management have said they won't install an aerial or satellite dish and Virgin Media insist I need to sign up to a paid TV package and even then I'd need a box to watch the channels.

Assuming the channels are all encrypted, then no. Depending on your location, a small indoor aerial should allow you to receive Saorview channels.

If you have a south facing balcony, you have the potential option of placing a dish on the balcony for UK satellite channels. That TV should have an in-built satellite tuner according to specs online.

Virgin Media, in common with the other providers in this market, won’t allow you to use your own equipment. In some other jurisdictions providers will supply you with a CI+ module that will allow you to view pay TV services with the appropriate subscription.

Regardless of that, you do need the appropriate subscription. If you don’t want pay TV, and can’t install an outdoor aerial or dish, an indoor aerial (“rabbits ears”) may do you for Saorview. You’ll only receive RTTV3/TG4 and their associated channels on that platform. A dish on the balcony might work in certain circumstances but you may fall foul of the terms of your lease.

You are trying to watch the encrypted RTE channels that are on satellite. A Sky subscription is required to watch them. For free RTE you need an aerial to watch via Saorview.
